Biography

Lich likes cats. A lot. He likes everything about cats. Some other dragons wonder about how he lacks glitch powers despite his ancestor Naomi. Even though he lacks glitch powers, and of course so does his mate, Vinifera, the glitch powers seem to be present in their hatchlings. But honestly, enough talk of glitch powers. Lich doesn't care. He just loves cats. He wants to be known as a dragon obsessed with felids, not a Naomi-descendant with no glitch powers.

(Work in Progress, also it only gets to the part with Lich in the 7th paragraph) Backstory:

In Sornieth, there are dragons known as Couriers, who deliver items to clans, under the leadership of Edgar, Pearl, and Spitfire. There are also exalted dragons, who work for the deities in some way, such as improving the condition of the land, being warriors, healing others, etc. But one day, long ago, all of the couriers and exalted dragons disappeared into a mysterious vortex.

Millions of dragons found themselves in a strange world. It looked like a gigantic city, but it seemed unpredictably pixelated in some areas. The sky had no sun or moon, only a matrix of glowing green ones and zeroes. Sticky black and white slime flowed around and lapped at the dragons' paws. There were networks of tunnels underground. In the presence of millions of dragons, an ominous silence turned into a racket of dragons squashed together and complaining.

An entity seemingly appearing out of nowhere came. She was a Fae, but she seemed bigger than an Imperial dragon, though she was capable of changing size. Her name was Naomi, and she knew all about the strange dimension. She would help lead the dragons out. She flew away soon after, but portals back to Sornieth now appeared in abundance.

Meanwhile, back in Sornieth, virtually every dragon knew about the strange happening. In the absence of so many dragons, Naomi used very powerful magic to stand in for every exalted dragon and every Courier dragon. She promised that this would never happen again. Soon, more and more dragons were back in Sornieth, and Naomi eventually left. She returned to her own dimension and made sure the connection between Sornieth and Naomi's glitch dimension was sealed off.

However, it was only physically sealed off, not mentally. Long before the strange event, Naomi was a regular dragon with regular hatchlings. But even still, Naomi had glitch powers, even when she was just born. Her hatchling, Willow, inherited it, and Willow also had descendants of her own.

The Naomi descendants eventually chose to meet up in a specific spot in Naomi's dimension. They would do this occasionally though, so at some times they were in Sornieth and in other times they were in Naomi's dimension. Occasionally, they had family reunions. Also, Naomi and some of her workers kept track of whenever one of her descendants is born.

One day, Lich, and his sibling Wraith, were born. Of course, Naomi descendants being born isn't super rare, so it's nothing special. As a part of the tradition passed down in the Naomi heritage, the hatchlings would be painfully sent into the glitch dimension, into a void. Both hatchlings were in a deep dark place, and the glitch dragons would appear and teach the hatchlings about Naomi, and to not fear the darkness. Wraith listened. Lich did not.

Switch to third person character perspective:

An orange pearlcatcher hatchling is in his egg, ready to hatch. He breaks his shell open. Suddenly, he is painfully jerked into a deep, dark void. "Where am I?" he shouts into the darkness. It echoed, despite there being nothing for the sound to bounce off of. "Hello? Is anyone there? he shouts again. It echoes. Suddenly, lights appear. Dragons came out. They surround the young hatchling. "The darkness is not to fear," said one dragon. "Naomi will protect you," said another. "Because you are one of us." said yet another dragon. Suddenly he felt as if a blanket was on his back, and the whole abyss seemed to whisper, "You need not worry at all. You are a descendant of the protective Naomi the Great. You will be one of us, one with great power, and you will be under the void's benevolent wing of protection if you join our cause."

The orange hatchling thinks about the offer for a moment. What was the cause, anyway? To take over the world? It didn't matter to him. There must be a great price to pay to gain great power, and he did not want to pay that price. He gathered all his confidence and shouted. "No! I refuse!" he yelled into the abyss. The sound waves rippled through the slime. He turned back and ran as fast he could, away from the abyss and the hisses behind him. His confidence had converted into fear, which in turn converted into speed and stamina to run and run for what seemed like forever. He ran towards a bright light and jumped into the glowing orb. He was back in Sornieth. Only a mere minute had passed while he was in the glitch dimension. His parents and sibling smiled at him and he smiled back. He was given the name Lich, and his brother was named Wraith. But he wondered. Did his brother have the same experience? Would his brother become a monster?

Switch off character perspective:

As a hatchling, about the age of 8, Lich is still haunted by his experience in the glitch dimension. His father Phantom would sometimes randomly scream and disappear for a few minutes. And his brother Wraith would do this too, though it was less common. It never happened with Lich. He stayed away from Phantom and Wraith, afraid the darkness might consume him too. He was worried the rest of the clan might consider him an oddity, for being a Naomi descendant but not having glitch powers. One day, Lich wandered off, but then he noticed a portal. It wasn't dark or scary. He entered the portal. He was transported to an island on the other side of Sornieth.

Switch to first person character perspective:

I had been wandering for a bit too long. I didn't know if I was still on my clan's territory or not. I'm glad nothing grabbed me and ate me though, since I've heard stories about big monsters in the Sea of a Thousand Currents. After a while, I saw a portal. It wasn't dark or scary so I guessed it wouldn't be a portal back to the scary darkness. I checked nobody was watching me. I didn't see anyone watching me, so I entered the portal. It was like walking through a colorful tunnel. There were lots of bright swirling colors. Then I saw a light at the end and went into it. When I went into it, all I could see was a very pale rainbow, but that only lasted for a few seconds. It faded and I saw a wonderful land. I didn't know where I was and I don't think it was like any place I've seen on a map before. What I do know is that it was beautiful. There were jungles and savannas and grasslands and mountains. I saw mice and deer and birds and fish and much more.

But that wasn't all, because I saw lots and lots of cats and cat-like animals. Lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, servals, ocelots, lynxes, cheetahs, cougars, margays, domestic cats, and more. It was so pretty. I saw a little tiger cub walk up to me and meow. It was adorable. I don't think tigers meow, but this one did. It was adorable. I decided to go and befriend more of the cats.

I had been on the island for a few days. I had food and water and I liked it there. I wondered if my clan was worried though.
