Biography
He/Him | Adult | Pirate Captain
Despite his element of Fire, Seregios was destined to live his life at sea from the very beginning. When he was just an unhatched egg, a small fleet of pirates pillaged a clan of dragons that resided at the beaches of The Ashfall Waste. They took all their valuables, including a few unhatched eggs, that they hoped to either sell forward or hatch and raise the capable hatchlings as crewmembers. As fate would have it, a strong-willed and nimble hatchling popped out of one of the eggs on the fleet's way to their next destination, and this little boy got the name Seregios.
Even though this little Fire dragon was surrounded by his opposing element, he wasn't hindered by this at all, but the complete opposite: The fire in his heart burned even brighter and made him train twice as hard than the other hatchlings. Many of his fellow hatchmates couldn't keep up with the training and being on the sea eventually made even the able-bodied hatchlings really weak, so they were left behind here and there during their visits to harbours where they sold their loot. The captain saw how troubled Seregios was when his hatchmates left one after another, so he told Seregios: "This ship has no room for weaklings. Even though we might take pity on them, the sea has no mercy for the weak". After hearing this Seregios understood that it was for the best.
He grew fast and learned even faster, and before reaching young adulthood he had already mastered seafaring and formed a close bond to his crewmates. He was the last remaining dragon of their raid to The Ashfall Waste, and they didn't hide his past from him. He was quite mature for his age and calmly heard the captain's story and thanked him for being honest with him. Seregios then told them that he might one day want to visit the place he was originally from, but to Seregios the fleet was his family, and the sea was his home, and wouldn't wish anything to be otherwise.
By adulthood he had grown to be quite popular amongst his crewmates. He was humorous, laid-back, well-mannered and charming. He won even the most sour merchants and acquaintances over with his words and charisma. In addition he was highly respected for his honesty, reliability and resilience. Everybody knew Seregios to also be one of the most headstrong and daring dragons in the crew, who'd sometimes clash even with the captain when he wanted to go through with his plan or idea. The captain greatly valued his opinion, but he sometimes had to bend this "youngster's" mind out of the reckless ideas of his.
Seregios loved the captain like a father, and he saw Seregios as his son. When the captain's time had come, the whole fleet gathered to his ship's cabin and deck. The mood was dark and the air was heavy, you could feel the depth of the fleet's sorrow for their beloved captain who lied on his death bed taking slow and shallow breaths. The captain specifically asked for his most trusted man aside him, Seregios, who couldn't stop himself from crying when he kneeled to his bedside. The captain smiled to him and softly patted his head while saying:
"After all this time, you still haven't lost that softness from your heart, haven't you my son..." he paused and took the golden amulet from his neck and with shaking hands he put it on Seregios' neck.
"... Remember what I told you when you were young... They need a strong captain Seregios..."
Tears ran down from Seregios' eyes when he nodded and hugged his captain tight for the last time. The captain smiled and shed a few tears too while hugging him back as tight as he could. With his last remaining strength he said:
"You'll make the right decisions even when they're tough ones... When that time comes, be true to your principles..."
After saying this, the captain's grip loosened and Seregios let his lifeless body to rest on the bed. This was the first time he felt grief. This feeling of loss felt like it was nearly unbearable, like it would drown him. The cold amulet touched his chest as he stood up from the bedside, and he noticed there was carving behind the amulet. His captain's words from his past echoed in his ears when he read the words "The sea has no mercy for the weak". This made him look up to his crewmates who all looked helpless and lost in their grief. He understood the importance of those words.
He was their captain now. He had to lead them.
Seregios straightened his pose and gave the amulet to his crew's goldsmith as he put his hand on his shoulder in a comforting manner. His voice was soft but couraging as he said: "Would you be able to shorten the chain on this amulet?" The goldsmith wiped off his tears, nodded and replied:
"Yes captain."
Slowly others gathered to Seregios to both congratulate and give their condolances, as well as searching for instructions and commands from their new captain. The old captain got a worthy burial at sea, and after a while the fleet got back into their regular routines with the lead of Seregios.
Nowadays Seregios' name is fairly widely known amongst harbour merchants, seafarers and other pirates.
