Biography

Silas's Story
The Spark

The tale of a child born from a lantern's flame
23134.png

“As carriers of stories and secrets, the Wind flight is known for its rituals; from singing to the breeze for good luck, or casting leaves into the sky and looking to their shadows to tell whether the day will be fair or overcast, generations of dragons have passed down customs — some with explanation, and some without.

When dragons visit the Cloudsong, whether Wind-natives or foreign visitors, its held in stark belief that they must hang a lantern so that travelers such as themselves can find their way in the night. Nightbliss and Morrigan, foreigners themselves, found it strange that the dragons of the great kite would want fire anywhere near their paper home — but ultimately agreed to follow tradition, nonetheless.

Unbeknownst to the pair, their humble offering would serve its purpose well. When whipping gales streamed over the steppes and rain came down from the swirling clouds as if the Tidelord himself was weeping, a humble mage of the Windsinger’s chorus was saved by the guidance of the last licks of flame the lantern had to bear. In thanks for saving them from a day lost in the storm, the mage whispered a strange song into its flame. With breath laced with primordial wind, the fire burst back into full force — and much to their surprise, burned much further than anticipated.

Even under a barrage of cold rain, wind and fire danced in a torrent from the mouth of the lantern, a vortex coiling just beneath the paper walls. The mage watched in wonder as it wove itself into the form of a hatchling, nestled within the delicate craft and sound asleep. Though shocked, the mage wasn’t careless enough to abandon the child; after the storm had cleared, they coasted down to the winds of the Twisting Crescendo, gifting the child to a clan with an open nest.

It’s suspected that Silas’s quiet, delicate nature is due to his strange origins; so too is his talent for bending smoke into wondrous shapes. Though easily frightened and easily hurt, he loves his denmates with a fiery passion, and will put aside his bashfulness to come to their aid when the time comes. Those new to the clan find him dark and brooding — those more familiar know him to simply be shy.”
