"The weight of the world is a mighty burden."
Dominance. It was something Lotus lacked in her hatchling days. mindful of her own business, submissive, and daresay a little shy. A withdrawn head would mean less problems, less conflict. Let her remain with the submissive artists of the Wildclaw race. If someone approaches, don't let them get to you, do not fight back for fear of defeat... Lotus was never a good artist, and an even worse coward. One day, the water dragon had enough of the fighting and sorrow left behind after every refusal of battle, the belittling laughter of her kin. One could only gain recognition if they could fight, as is the law of the Gladekeeper's children. So she did. Raising her head high into the air, flaring her wings in a declaration of defiance, she reigned supreme in her clan. Instead of her paintings being torn down after the hierarchy shifted, it was she who the walls crooned silently for. Faster than any youth, Lotus rose to the top of the food chain. Other dragons now feared her prowess and groveled before the land she walked on. She could have had anything... but in her savagery she'd forgotten what it was like to behave pleasantly. Everything became about the fight, everyone was her enemy in the numb world of battle. She didn't even recall how to discern certain emotion. Yet her world was still perfect if no one tried to take advantage of her position. However, it was not her position in society that would be challenged in the coming moons. She should have suspected something was amiss when that Spiral showed up at her front door. He was tangled up and hungry, and she had the gall to help his knotty situation. Not only was this spiral massive in length, he was about as flighty as a feather. Going on about some storm that would arrive in water territory in no more than seven days. "It would match the intensity of the Twisting Crescendo in the Windswept Plateau! It will drain the sea of all its water! WINDSINGER HAVE MERCY!" And he flew away when he finally realized he was no longer entangled. Lotus was left entirely befuddled by his madness, but paid no heed to it. And when dawn arrived four days later, the skies grew dark and ominous above and everyone retreated into their abyssal dens deep within the Sea of a Thousand Currents. But it was no use. The storm altered the currents below, and Lotus was swept away with them. The currents spiraled upwards and drained into a spiraling vortex above-ground. Now Lotus knew how to fly, but flying in a tornado was only possible by the Windsinger's children. The Wildclaw was powerless to fight against such a force of nature, her breath began to escape, her eyes shut wearily. And the same voice positively screamed at her. The spiral from before was flung against Lotus, and he wrapped around her neck and body, blocking all manner of escape. The tight bind kept Lotus conscious long enough to yell at the Spiral. "CAN'T YOU JUST FLY OUT OF THIS MESS?" Something within the noodle dragon clicked, and he did just that, dragging Lotus with him. The two escaped the storm with barely a strip of their sanity. And when Lotus regained consciousness, the spiral was still wrapped around her. The rant lasted for hours. Lotus unbound herself to this idiot Spiral and took in her surroundings. They landed somewhere in Shadow territory, deep within the Tangled Wood. Against better judgement, the two dragons banded together to find an escape. The Spiral's name was Delt, she'd discovered at least fifteen times in a single conversation he held. While unbearable in every sense of the word, and long enough to be intimidating to even her, together they were the best chance of making it back to their respective homes across the continent alive. Or at least making it to the Shifting Expanse where a new adventure awaited them in the form of a Solar Sailor and a quirky group of lightning dragons. |
