The world is a drum
whose rhythm is recorded as its history. Dragonhome is renowned for its connection with Sornieth's history. Its citizens and denizen remember more about the world's Creation than any other Flights'. As a dedicated historian, Rajada traveled to Dragonhome to record the first-hand experiences of dragonkind's conception, passed down hundreds of generations, and to interpret stories of the deities from the First Age Her initial plan was to travel straight to the Pillar of the World, but as she got closer to the Pillar, there were less and less clans to buy supplies and room from. Eventually she arrived at an expanse between the Shattered Plain and Greatwyrm's Breach with only a few bits of seafood left and a fair amount of exhaustion. It was morning, so the sun did not beat too heavily on her, but being accustomed to the Icefield didn't do well for her heat tolerance. Still, she continued, though at a more reserved pace. At noon she arrived at the Breach, but found that she was so fatigued from her travels that she could not continue on, especially down such a steep precipice. How do those Snappers do it? Planning to rest, she made a lean-to against one of the more inclined edges of the gorge and set about recording her journey in one of several journals she kept on her, all detailing her travels from the Isles to the Wasteland to Dragonhome. Unsurprisingly, Rajada passed out from exhaustion, the story about the clan of Tundra she had seen sleeping on migrating Snappers' backs would have to wait. When she woke from her nap, sometime in the evening, she spotted a modest-sized clan traveling in her direction from the Plains. If she hadn't been thinking of greeting them, her parched throat and growling stomach persuaded her otherwise. After talking with Bruins for a while, they realized they were going in basically the same direction. Bruins' clan was actually migrating to Greatwyrm's Breach, to an area surrounding the Pillar. Without much insistence, Rajada was convinced to travel with this clan until they needed to part ways. As they traveled, Rajada picked the brain of the rest of the clan on their experiences and personal history. History is made up of thousands of individuals, she’s fond of saying, and no history book was ever complete without individual experiences. Upon the group's arrival to the new clan-site, Rajada was awestruck. Bruins was obviously recycling an abandoned lair, and so it appeared had the clan before that, and before that! Paintings of the First Four shaping Sornieth lined the cave walls like a gallery, chronologically displaying the very formations of the world. Rajada immediately began recording these murals, accurate to every brush, claw, and tailstroke. No one had a reason nor the heart to make her leave, so Bruins had Carbon construct a small shelter just outside the cave entrance for Rajada to rest in. It wasn't until several months, after she had copied every detail of the paintings in the cave, and all the caves immediately connected to it, that she thanked the clan for helping her and unofficially adopting her into their clan. At that point, Rajada had expanded her home so much and filled it with so many of her records and books, that it had become the clan library, where any dragon who visited could freely learn of Sornieth and its dragons' history. It was in her library that she met the mellow Frode. Bonding over the intricacies of fertilization techniques is unorthodox, sure, but such is budding love. However, Rajada only has so many books on fertilization, so, without the guise of routine library visits, it wasn't long until they each had to confess their feeling for one another. Rajada was a little disappointed to learn that he traveled away quite frequently, but Frode promised her he’d visit as often as he could, and so far he’s kept that promise. It helps to fill his absences that he brings tales of faraway clans and customs to share with her, and when they reunite under the shadow of the Pillar, it’s certainly an experience for the history books. Thanks to Aramea for helping write this! (And for that cheesy, romantic ending.) |
