Biography

This Bio is mostly an incomplete collection of odds and ends.

Paid rename scroll, 2280 gems for wildclaw breed change, wasted 400 gems for silhouette scroll only to change my mind and keep him male, 17g for citrine anklets, 990 gems for luminous halo.

Name means "Strong/Might"

Though afah (assigned female at hatching), Iphys never identified as such, making his gender identity known without question early on and with the full support of his mother - his father, being generally clueless, accepted his son.

Iphys quickly proved to be a valiant and fiercely protective dragon as well, strong, and more likely to engage in physical combat against bullies or rough play with friends than most pearlcatchers.

Loves and beloved by Ianthe. He fell for her when he was still a pearlcatcher, runes not yet invoked. His hatching gender weighed heavily on his mind as their flirting turned to more serious feelings and affection. The knowledge they could never have hatchlings together haunted him and her rejection was the only thing in his life he'd ever feared.

At his mother's suggestion, he consulted a powerful seer and discovered the answer was literally coded into his hide from the moment he hatched. He'd always felt the power in his runes, but had also heard many horror stories about the strongest runic invocations. Fortunately for him, this seer was an ancient runecatcher among their other talents and didn't even need to see his future to give him the answer.

They told him the runes spoke of blessings of the gods along with powerful transformative powers to manifest his truest self - valiant and beloved. For extra measure, they added their typical fortune to the deal made: "Your greatest path of happiness lies in finally invoking your runes."

Then, with a good-natured smirk, they added, "When you do, you should find the hunt I've tasked you with in return barely a challenge for one with so much valiance and divine favour."

They were right on both accounts, though the transformation from pearlcatcher to wildclaw still came as quite the surprise.

He has since confessed to Ianthe that he's transgender and discovered to his delight that she would've loved him just the same even if he'd never undergone such a complete transformation.

All of this is actually referencing a Greek tale about Iphys and Ianthe - the former being raised as a male to save his life and the two falling in love after betrothal. Iphys and his mother pray to Isis (among some other gods) as the date of the wedding nears and in response, he is blessed and transformed into a male so he can wed and consummate his marriage with his beloved Ianthe - the two living happily ever after together. I added the part where he tells Ianthe and finds out she would've loved him no differently. Also tied the transformation itself into runic invocation magic of the Runecatcher subspecies which these two have a high chance of making storycatcher variant babies of.

I may retool this story and the dragons involved further down the road. Maybe Ianthe knew already? Probably it will remain the case that Iphys was always a trans dude with accepting and supportive parents instead of forced to be one originally to save his life.

"iphys (#7) has successfully convinced me lapis crystal/facet deserves another chance. i mean, the stark contrast against the white wings and gold accents of his skin is really beautiful, i adore how the philosopher's veil adds just the right touch and the lumi halo contrasts very nicely. also his matchy familiar is a real bonus :"D"
