In his sleep he finds the fallen star, sleek and lifeless in the dark, and all the lives she took when gravity pulled her to the earth. In his dreams he sees the cracks in the fiber of reality. They're a faintly pulsing highway system of eldritch energy; webbing, forking streams of ancient magic piercing the fabric of Sornieth. Do not touch the ley lines, the trees warn Mack when he considers too long, but Mack wonders if they underestimate him. Do not touch the ley lines, Nashia tells him the first time he asks. But Nashia's defenses are fragile from years of wrangling foreign energy on a vast internal battlefield, and she is weak to the whispers of dark energy. Mack is neither. He is the culmination of all his parents' strengths, Ronan's deft precision and depths of dream magic with Dayna's spine of steel, and he knows it. The trees know too. Do not touch the ley lines, they tell him. Yet. _

- Moonkeep's resident Brooder (well. the most pronounced of them.)
- According to Dayna, Mack gets his unbelievable stubbornness and his resting angry face from his father, or at least the dragon his father was before his head injury. Ronan denies all of this
- Mack runs with the Sound, but as one of their rotating members as opposed to a full-time one. He can take the most damage of all Moonkeep's active warriors save Dayna and Amaris, and the Sound take him out with the patrol whenever things might get particularly weird or violent
- When he's at Moonkeep he spends a lot of time in the aviary, and has far less attitude when he's interacting with the birds than he does with anybody else
- Vanishes into the forest for a few days at a time every once in a while, and can come back either looking like he got mobbed by longnecks or like he's never been gone. He goes out there to learn to speak to the trees, but he's not advertising that
- His dreams are powerful; he got hit with the combo of inheriting Ronan's vivid dreams + natural Shadowborn sensitivity to dream magic and witchcraft + Moonkeep's natural amplification of dreams and visions. He knows a lot about the village under Moonkeep, Starchild, the Anthropocene, and the Woods itself thanks to his dreams. Psy is teaching him how to speak to the trees, so that they can further teach him to nurture his potential for extremely powerful magic
- He is sensitive to the Shade but not weak to it, like Nashia is. For the price of a favor Nashia will occasionally give him a lesson in tapping into the collective consciousness of the ley lines, but for the most part he wants to figure it out for himself. He's quite secretive about all of this.
