As Night falls by the beach
by yours truly, crappy non-native English included
TW: Blood xxxxxxxHer eyes opened as she felt a cold wind coming from the window, making the curtains dance in its breeze. She had closed all windows and the door before going to bed because Maria complained about the cold. The curtains moved. There is someone else in the room. xxxxxxxShe took a short breath then a very long one, untangling herself from her wee one's embrace. It is moving now, slithering around the room like a snake. Whether it is searching for something or targetting Maria made no difference. xxxxxxxIf she has to kill to protect Maria, she will. xxxxxxxFor the first time in her life, she feels the very wrath of the Wyrmwound pulsating inside her body. Whoever dared to break into the Navigator Household would deeply regret doing so. xxxxxxxBrie discreetly reaches for the dagger she kept by the nightstand. She grips it tightly under her fingers and lunges herself in a swift motion. xxxxxxxThe spiral stood no chance against such a massive foe: no struggle and no fighting. Brie presses it against the door as the dagger pierces the spiral's body. It drops a cutlass and gasps blood. Maria screams as she wakes up and Brie hears movement in the near room as Farris and Nephilim wake up from the sound. xxxxxxx– Who sent you?! - Brie twists her blade as the spiral wails in pain. xxxxxxx– Nobody sent me. - The spiral sneers. xxxxxxx– Who sent you!? xxxxxxxIt whines a wail out and begins to faint. The pain is too grand to hold back their employer's name. Brie withdraws her blade as soon as she memorises the unknown name dropping the spiral on the floor. She wants to rush to Maria's side and pick her up but doesn't. She is soaked in the spiral's blood and does not fancy Maria to be anywhere near it. She pulls the invader out of the way. Its alive, only fainted, and will pay for its crimes. Maria's parents rush to her side. xxxxxxxEach of the adults has a place in that scene. Drenched in blood, with a dagger on her hands, Brie is well aware of hers. She rushes to the other rooms. Maybe the spiral isn't operating alone. xxxxxxxIf she has to kill, she will.
***
xxxxxxxShe is known as a meek and sweet dragonet. The boisterous younglings often mock her passive nature and calm personality. Brie never fights back, never, never, ever. If she even notices the bullying, she never shows. The guardian pays no mind to the mocks of others. xxxxxxxShe has a job now, after so many years unsure if she had any talents whatsoever. She has a job and is good at it. She gently follows the baby dragons around Porto, teaching them about the world, watching them grow and caring for their safety. xxxxxxxYoung dragons often mock her, but not the older ones. They can see the daggers well within reach of Brie's hand. xxxxxxxIf she has to kill to protect the hatchlings, she will. | x |

Affiliation The Navigator Guild Skills Responsible, reliable and a good teacher Major Work Keeping the younglings in check and safe At first, most are put off by Brie's bright red eyes. A vivid eye colour usually implies a strong connection to a dragon's element and so Brie's bright red eyes should be the sign of the blight living vividly inside her. In reality, Brie is likely the weakest plague dragon you'll ever meet. Surviving in the Scarred Wasteland is hard, and Brie only managed to reach adulthood because of an elder dragon caring for her. Not her mother, no, Brie was always an orphan, but an elder dragon who took pity on her. As the dragon died, she left Brie with a letter and a suggestion: leave the Plaguelands, as she would not survive long there if she stayed. So Brie left to the city where the dragon her letter was addressed to lived: a small, newly stablished clan in the shores of the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Upon her arrival, she met Farris, whom her adoptive mother had close ties with. Brie had no talents. She was already an adult dragon but she still had not discovered her charge, something that brought great shame to her. She was a helpless lass and had no skills whatsoever that could be of use to a new clan. But Farris firmly believes every dragon has a task meant just for them, lacking skills is no excuse to be out of work in his mind. In a twist nobody expected, he had a very gentle disposition towards her, allowing her to take her time to find a skill for her, and in the meanwhile, he would house her. Some say Brie's adoptive mother may have been distantly related to Farris. Or maybe, he did it out of the kindness in his heart. Whatever it was, it took her a few years of trial and error to finally discover her vocation when she came to meet Farris newborn daughter, Maria. Brie just had a way with hatchlings. She was good with them. In trying to keep them safe, she would find a fierceness inside her she didn't knew she had. All of a sudden, Brie found her charge: caring for hatchlings. She became Porto's hatchling caretaker and teacher, a job she still perform with care and love, but also with strength, should someone pose any sort of danger to her protégées. |

Farewell, my dear
by the fantastic OuchWorm
xxxxxxxMy dearest Brie, xxxxxxxMy dear child, you have always been the light of my life, and my favorite indiscretion. xxxxxxxThe day that I found you, I knew that I could not leave you to die. And now, years later, that sweet little dragon with sad eyes of the brightest crimson has grown into such a wonderful young guardian. xxxxxxxI know that these eyes have brought you much pain, my dear, but please do not allow them to bring you shame. There always has been a kindness inside you that has not been dimmed, even by this horrid, violent land. xxxxxxxThe wasteland has swallowed up many souls much kinder and softer than my own, but soon it will swallow mine as well. When that hour comes, I want you to leave. xxxxxxxI know, dear child, that you feel allegiance to me and the land of our birth, but the Scarred Wasteland is no place for kind souls. If you stay here, you will die, or you will lose a part of yourself that will be impossible to recover, forged in blood and death. xxxxxxxYou are my lily, my guiding light in this darkness. Caring for you has kept me strong through all of these years, and I want your light to continue shining even in my absence. But for that you must please leave these lands, for your kindness will only be preyed upon here. xxxxxxxThere is a dragon that you must seek, far, far beyond the Scarred Wastelands. In a small clan beside the Sea of a Thousand Currents. His name is Farris and he is a good, strong leader who will care for you and help you to find purpose. xxxxxxxMy sweet, dear Brie. Once my body grows cold and the last ember has died in our hearth, you must promise me that you shall be gone. This pulsating empire of death will harm you no longer, and you will awaken each morning to the clean, salty spray of the sea. xxxxxxxThis I wish for you, to have brightness in every tomorrow, from now and to the end of time. Until the hour in which you may join me at Plaguebringer’s side. But you, my sweet, I hope will find a more benevolent god overseeing a different land, where none of your brethren will succumb to the darkness around us. xxxxxxxThis future is what I wish, and for that you must go to the sea, and let its freedom be your new god. Until the tides have washed away the horrors of yesterday, and both I and the scarred wasteland are nothing but the faint memories of a forgotten dream. xxxxxxxBe strong, my angel, xxxxxxxAeon | x |
