She’s got magic in her blood. He has the arcane at his fingertips. Her claws are always on the move, brewing his next concoction. As the de facto “leader” of magical affairs in Clan Pogmatwany, Geode has a lot on her mind all the time, but can always balance it, by “going with the flow.” From brewing to spells, her knowledge is wide, but depth is something she’s never had as much time to gain as some of her colleagues. Her aim is to know about as many subjects as she can, embracing her role as “jack of all trades” in the magical community. Though she claims to have encountered resistance to her lack of focus in the past, it seems to have not affected her enthusiasm in any meaningful way. But… something else did. Geode is, at heart, a lonely dragon. He’d never quite found a home that felt like home until he joined Pogmatwany. He spent many a year wandering every Flight’s territory, joining up with groups to trade skills with other magic wielders, becoming fast friends with most dragons thanks to his zest for life and nurturing nature. But it never felt right; It always felt forced, even when he knew logically, deep down, that every clan he spent time with thought of him as family and would gladly have seen him stay with them through the rest of his days. He kept them at a greater distance than he truly wished for, always knowing he would end up getting restless, especially among clans that preferred a settled lifestyle to a nomadic one. Though, then again, he didn’t really enjoy constant travel either. So, after years of testing the waters, of searching for the “perfect” clan despite knowing such a thing didn’t exist, Geode was at an impasse. What to do, where to go? Where would satisfy her need for constant engagement, but at the same time, offer her a home to return to after a hard day’s work? Oh, no… She, with all his Arcane instincts, had been hoping this wasn’t the answer. Off he flew into the darkness one night, after saying goodbye to her current clan. She arrived at the Tempest Spire at sunrise, and inquired about how things worked around here. He was shuffled around various secretaries, supervisors, and managers, until she finally landed in the Office of Clan Affairs. There, the helpful dragons gave her a list of all the clans that were accepting new members, and after parsing it, he saw one with a strange name. “Oh, Pogmatwany?” said one of the office dragons. “Yeah, they’ve got the longest streak of open time. They haven’t closed it since the clan was founded. And that was years ago.” He simply had to know more about them. Surely a clan like this could be no less than unique? She read every scrap of data they were allowed to show her, and she was sold. They were involved in as many aspects of Lightning Flight life as a group of their size could be, and they self-proclaimed to be the most welcoming clan in the desert. They weren’t lying, and here she remains, guiding magic users from across the Expanse every day with her tutorials, “Magic 101” books and illusion recordings, and every other piece of work she does at the Spire Institute for the Study of Magic. |
