Aurorus, like most Guardians, set out on his journey to find his Charge as soon as he was of age to leave his birthclan. His travels took him far and wide, and wherever he went, adventure and excitement followed. Never content to stand by passively in the face of injustice, Aurorus grew into a competent warrior as he righted wrongs and vanquished evils all across Sornieth.

Tales, most often overblown, of his exploits often preceded him, and many mistakenly assumed that his Charge was all innocent beings, for his tireless dedication to their defense. He had lifted to safety a young Snapper who had fallen into a deep ravine, evacuated survivors of a flood in the Starfall Isles, and slain a mad Imperial Shade-worshipper menacing a village in the Scarred Wasteland – who was, of course, upgraded to an Emperor by the time the story reached other regions.

In truth, these good deeds were merely the side effect of his search for a yet-unknown Charge taking him into the path of innocents in distress, and his moral compulsion to intervene on their behalf. So it was in the frigid tundras of the Southern Icefield, when a blizzard unexpectedly forced him to take shelter in an ice cave. There, to his great surprise, he discovered two Skydancer hatchlings hiding in the darkness. The hatchlings, Aquilius and Cassius, were very young indeed, and had wandered away from their nests just before the storm, and had blundered on together through the biting wind and blinding snow until they had come to the cavern that Aurorus had now found.

There, the three of them waited until the blizzard subsided. With tracks covered in the snow, and landmarks unknown from an inability to see in the storm, the hatchlings only knew the general direction they had entered the cave from. Aurorus did what he could to calm them, and carried them on his back as he attempted to find their home, but after days of searching, it became clear that it was a futile task. Unable to leave the hatchlings to fend for themselves, Aurorus took them with him as he continued his journey.

It was in the Tangled Wood that his search finally paid off. While making his way along a forest road, he heard the sounds of battle in the distance. Curious, he moved toward the source of the commotion, emerging into a clearing where he saw a small, dark Fae being attacked by a group of Talonok.

Aurorus instinctively knew he had found his Charge, and with the hatchlings still clinging to his back, he barreled into the clearing with a mighty roar. The Talonok were caught off guard as he attacked, and those that evaded the Guardian’s initial attack fled into the woods, leaving their exhausted quarry behind.

The Fae’s name was Gallicinia, a priestess of the Lightweaver, and she had been a member of an ill-fated party of would-be heroes aiming to recover stolen eggs from the beastclans. Though she was the only survivor of a raid that became a massacre, her quest had not been entirely in vain; she had rescued a single, pale green egg, and intended to bring it back to the Sunbeam Ruins.

Aurorus was more than happy to follow her there. Having found his Charge, he had no more need to wander the world. Her goals were his goals; her journey was his journey. His path was forever bound to hers. And as they traveled, he learned about her, bit by bit. The reserved Fae, though grateful for his assistance and company, took time to warm to her rescuer, and only revealed the details of her story piecemeal. These pieces, however, were enough for Aurorus to see that Gallicinia, too, was the sort to take action in the face of injustice. He admired her bravery and conviction, and as they traveled, his admiration grew into affection, which the Fae returned in her own way, in time.

By the time they reached the Sunbeam Ruins, they had decided to form their own clan, and raise hatchlings of their own, in addition to the three they had come to be adoptive parents to – the pale egg having hatched out a small Pearlcatcher during their travels. Together they selected a ruined temple on the Mirrorlight Promenade to restore and call home.

They chose the name Araven, for the last bit of legible text in the ruin. Gallicinia dedicated this new clan to the ideals she and Aurorus upheld, founding the Order of Dawn’s Talon, with the Guardian as its first paladin.
