Despite being an Ice dragon in a Lightning clan, Sherman is the most tech savvy dragon around. Though most of the clan embraces (or at least tolerates) their isolated, low-speed life with minimal complaint, Sherman can't imagine life without his computers. Much of his equipment is hand-hacked and piecemeal - secondhand towers of blinking microchips and LEDs share floor space with humming metal hunks full of vacuum tubes and punch cards, all somehow working with each other to produce noise and heat only the natural cold of an Ice dragon could withstand. Josie gave him permission to set up in the library's basement; it was in no way an exclusive contract but suddenly, somehow, no one else wants those rooms anymore. More storage space for him! Most of Sherman's work is for Josie and his sister Roslin, digitizing old files and coming up with new ways of organizing them, though other clan members will occasionally want to put his equipment to use for a bit of number crunching. |

Even though Roslin's the boss (and the little sister, but it doesn't do to dwell on that), Sherman rarely sees her. Most of his interaction with they mayor's office comes through Phyllis, who comes by every few weeks to drop off cartons of weather records, century-old censuses in cramped writing, and back issues of the Square Toe Times. |

Though she may grouch occasionally, it's only to keep up appearances - Josie is actually thrilled to have Sherman around. Hardly anyone used that basement in any case, and now there's someone keeping it tidy. His promise to digitize her catalog is just the icing on the cake. |

Sorneith doesn't have an internet, at least not in our sense of the word, but if you give nerds computers they will find ways to communicate with them. Sherman and Lightshade may have never met in person but they've been electronic pen pals for years. Sherman keeps bugging his pal to come visit; Lightshade is understandably hesitant. |
