"Nothing is too old for change." - An overzealous Shah

Law is only law when it is enforced. Rules are put in place but only need be heeded if one deems they are necessary. Anything can be ignored, broken, forgotten in passing. The good, the bad, the ugly and the senseless ones especially. There are unspoken rules in cultures that outsiders would never consider without prior warning. There are laws put into effect simply because a bit of gossip is enough to turn a small candle fire into a roaring blaze. It is an unspoken rule that rules can and will be broken. One particular dragon is keenly aware of how loopholes work, how to wiggle between the cracks and through doors slightly ajar due to a strong draft.

He lived a lavish life where law kept one in line and well mannered. But over time he learned laws are forged with iron and lives can be broken in the blink of an eye. And with this insight, he came to learn of the irony in wanting change. How stubborn, arrogant dragons could turn a blind eye to sense and reason. How one’s lineage could overrule the word of family and evidence. His own kin tossed him aside for their own personal gain. Cold, heartless drakes casting aside their child for etiquette and glittering goods. He sneered at their names once but no more. He did not know how to change fate once, how to save himself from abandonment and shame, but now he had the power of law and seniority. And he would use it.

Laws are made to be broken. It is a bit of an unspoken rule. Stone could be cracked or even broken. Raging rivers could be split into two calmer streams. Iron was not resolute. When Shah entered a Clan willing to take him after the fall of his own family, once protected by regulation and certainty, he was ready to welcome the daily grind of life and make a name for himself his family would one day envy. But when the old dragon settled in his nest he soon learned hospitality could be extended beyond sound reason. He saw the beasts toting about. Drakes smiling and standing side by side with centaurs, wretched half creatures capable of dragon tongue and speaking with honey words to woo their larger counterparts. Games and hunts between the smallest fae and their Yeti companion. How it sickened him to see them coexist like they were equal. He grew up in a world of pedigree, proper conduct, and knowing ones place. He lips curled at the very aspect of a mangy creature waltzing up to him with large, pleading eyes looking for a warm body to curl with.

So he picked up books. He picked up law. He studied and none were the wiser of his goals. He is an older dragon, stiff with age and stuffy with a pedigree higher than the clans own bank could reach. He would break rules and change them. If he could not protect the clan from itself, he would break it. He would break all they hold dear and shatter their lives like his had been. Laws and rules could be altered with only a few words and a mutual understanding between all. He would rid the clan of the beasts. Or rid the clan of the one who lead it. Either way the creatures would fall. They had no place at his or any dragons side. Not even as a newly-embodied dragon themselves.
