Biography

Shadow representative of the Cult of Undecim

Lore written by EverAthena

Amethyne is a renowned Shadow Priestess, and a long-time member of the Shadowblood clan. Mystery and darkness shroud her, for she knows things you wouldn't expect and she has no parents. Rumor has it she was created by the Shadowbinder with the sole purpose of being her priestess. She speaks very little, but her voice is silky and low, coated with darkness. The Shadowblood Clan itself is accustomed to her flitting through the castle halls, but the occasional honoured guests they get are terrified of her. She wanders the castle most of the time, but on dark nights with no moon and no stars, she roams the woods. Amethyne, as a recognized Shadow High Priestess, can give you the blessing of the Shadowbinder. Dragons new to the Tangled Woods and wishing to learn the ways of the dark come to her. She teaches them to hear things unseeable, see things untouchable, and touch things from beyond the veils. She listened to the whispers of fate and lets the darkness wreathe her hands as she lays the cards. Amethyne is detached from the world, cold, silent, and very focused. Her scales are cold. She has layed multiple eggs, but she does not care for them closely. The only things she holds close to her heart are the ruins, the cards, the runes, and the darkness. In the dark, with tendrils of shadow twining around her, and her iridescent midnight plumage on her wings, she looks like an apparition. She uses her pearl as a crystal ball to see things happening elsewhere.

No one really knows where Amethyne came from. She was not hatched in the clan, but as a very young hatchling she appeared at the gates of the Shadowblood Lair. She bore an emblem upon her forehead, glowing purple and wreathing her horns in darkness. Originally, the castle gates remained closed. but she reappeared, every night, until the gates opened and she stepped forward. She grew up staying in the shadows, observing her mentors and watching the clan. One night, the clan leader's eldest son lay in the courtyard, gasping in pain. He was dying of a sickness that no one knew how to cure. But Amethyne stepped forward into the moonlight. Clouds blew across the moon. It truly was a night of the Obscured Cresent. She layed her cards upon the ground in front of the dying dragon. Resting her talons upon his forehead, the Shadowbinder's emblem flared into existence under hew claws. Mist obscured the two, until in a purple flash he lay gone, his soul winding to the night, and she stood alone. At that point, she was recognized and hailed as a Shadow Priestess, capable of channeling the power and wishes of the Shadowbinder herself. She has sent dying dragons to her for years, and foreseen the future of everyone in the clan.

Amethyne's den is in the shorter of the two remaining towers in the ruined castle lair. You must tread carefully up the crumbling spiral stairs until you reach an intact door on the second-to-top floor. It has the Shadow emblem scorched into it. The room inside is round, a full tower room*. Ripped, ancient tapestries and banners adorn the walls. The stone floor is bare. A desk, with a roll of parchment and an inkwell of pure black, is in the center of the room. Darksteel candelabras and a chandelier, a tortured piece wrought in swirls that hangs over the desk, has ghostly blue candles flickering in it. Narrow windows let in moonlight, and another stairway is in the corner. There is a wooden nestframe layered with purple silk blankets on the south side of the room. The rest of the walls are covered in banners, shelves, or scroll racks. Banners and silk flags ae draped across some of the shelves, across the ceiling, between the sconces, and over statues in niches. There is a small stairwell by the north wall. The roof of the tower, a flat stone area surrounded by crenellated walls, is home only to a raised stone dias and carven pillar. Upon this can be set a crystal ball or a scrying bowl.

*The main tower does not have the stairwell built in. The stairs are in a separate, much smaller stone tower attached to the outside.
