Biography

Viserion He knew he must keep very still while he waited. Even a flicker of movement would ruin the moment. All he could do was blink at random intervals and hope the fluttering of his eyelids would not disclose his presence. His eyes burned, but there was nothing he could do about it now. He had to wait. It wouldn’t be much longer now. As the sun fell below the horizon, darkness enveloped the lone Spiral. The wilderness came alive with the dulcet tones of nocturnal creatures. Birdsong faded, replaced with the hum of the night. A breeze ruffled through the trees above, adding its own whisper to the chorus of the evening. His muscles spasmed in protest, yet the Spiral refused to give in to the wants of his body. If he moved now, all would be lost. Just a little longer. Time passed. The nighttime symphony approached its crescendo. The Spiral grimaced as another spasm rippled through his lithe frame. A frog hopped past his toes, oblivious to the coiled wyrm poised in the darkness. The faint breeze had disappeared as the stars began to peek from behind the blanket of the cosmos. The Spiral dared not look up to appreciate their beauty. He must stay focused. As his toes began to cramp from the cold, they began to appear in the clearing before him. Only a few at first, pinpricks of light in the darkness, but their number grew steadily. As the fireflies flickered before him, the Spiral risked a grin. He hoped the minute movement would not give him away as he discreetly observed the blinking lights. Another night, another peaceful victory. Tranquility flowed through him as more of the lambent creatures appeared. He could feel the tension ease from his tired muscles, his worries disappearing as he listened to the nocturnal choir and enjoyed his own personal light show. Long after the fireflies had returned to their secret home, the Spiral awoke on the pine-carpeted woodland floor. Even after a night exposed to the elements, the wyrm felt refreshed. He stretched and brushed off the leaves and pine needles that had fallen on him through the night. Blinking at the morning sun, he carefully picked his way past the babbling creek at the edge of the clearing and back towards the path. The Spiral took one last look behind his shoulder, scanning for evidence of the nighttime performance. As always, there wasn’t a single remnant of the concert. A soft smile broke his placid countenance as he opened his wings and readied himself for his return to chaos. |
