Creak… The wrought iron door opened, and Lake slowly walked inside, the evening sun shining through the large window making up the left wall, highlighting the many jars and pots put on the right-side shelves. Lake continued walking, carrying a large crate in his arms. His family had finished with the harvest a couple hours ago, and now it was time for him to work his magic. Figuratively, of course. Working his actual magic would lead to the end product ending up a lot… lighter than preferred. But he digressed. The Wildclaw put down the crate and went to grab a large jar, one of the few empty ones on the shelves. It looked clean, but years of experience told him not to trust first impressions when it came to these sorts of things. In a hidden corner to the right, behind an ivy-covered wall was a small tap, along with a drain. Lake washed out the jar a few times, watching water fill and flush away the last few smudges, and moved the crate he’d dragged in a little closer to the corner afterwards. He still needed to clean the contents, after all. A jade-green claw reached into the wooden crate and grabbed a bunch of grapes, the fruits almost glowing in the sunset before he held them under the tap for rinsing. His daughter had helped him out this year with the harvest, which was a rarity. Normally she and Splendid would be off travelling around this time, but this time they’d stayed home. Though her inexperience had squashed more than a few bunches on accident, Lake valued the help. Though he had gone through this process more times than he could count, it never got boring. Especially not when his family helped. Lake turned off the tap, inspecting the bunch again. He had a good feeling about this batch. |
