______ Her first memories of life were cold and quiet, dark and odorless. Whisp felt as if she were enveloped in a rough tomb, never to know another, kinder world. The young imperial grew up without knowing who she was or where she came from. She was completely and utterly alone. Her sense of touch could reveal her form, claws grasping at her scales and scraping along the cavern around her. Without other signs of life or even a glimpse of light, time passed without her notice.

______ Alone with her thoughts, she always wondered about her existence. What could her purpose possibly be when she knew nothing at all? What was there to discover if she could never leave this place?

______ One day, her prison shook with the impact of an unknown, outside force. She felt herself spinning, turning along with the rock that encased her… until the motion morphed into a quick descent. Whisp could hear nothing besides her heart pounding in her ears, but for the first time, her world was changing.

______ Air whistled along the meteor she had grown up in, heating up due to the force of the impact and warming the young dragon. Whisp smiled in anticipation. She did not know fear or pain, and only thought of her imminent escape. She nestled in the tiny space, content with wherever the journey would eventually end, and knowing she was at the mercy of the stars.

______ The meteor broke through the atmosphere and left a glowing trail of light in the black sky.

______ She awoke and was bathed in light. The wind tugged at her fur and wound around the rocks that still stuck to her body. For a long time, she stayed with her body against the chartreuse grass, completely vulnerable. Whispe took in all the senses she had been completely alienated from throughout her entire life. Warmth. The smell of mulch and greenery. The touch of the air. A breath.
