______ "What do you mean you have to go outside the cave?” the Guardian asked as he stared at the Spiral. “Do you not have everything you need here?”

Azalar’s tone indicated he was upset with the Spiral asking him if he could leave the cave. His clan was his family, and he wanted to protect them. The Guardian saw the prophecies within the Tidelord’s bubbles. The prophecies indicated the bad that was to happen on the surface of their world. Azalar’s way of life kept his family safe.

“I feel as if I should explore other possibilities, Azalar,” the Spiral explained. “My instinct is calling me to wander the world and explore new and exotic places.”

The seaweed on the giant dragon moved with the breeze that swept through the cave system. Azalar sighed as he nodded his head. The Guardian couldn’t keep the Spiral in the caves against his own wishes. The leader of the clan had tried before to keep them all save, but he knew it was futile. Many outsiders that had come to seek shelter and find a home had left, because his rule was strict and nerving. The giant lumbered to another room before diving deep into the water. He waited for the Spiral to follow him before he swam to the Spiral Keep.

Bubbles rose by the thousands from the Spiral Keep as Azalar stopped to stare at them all. He protected them. The Guardian made sure the bubbles saw the surface of the ocean. He moved his snout near one before pushing it toward the Spiral that followed him nervously. The young dragon had never been to the Keep before this instance. He was nervous that Azalar was pushing one of the many prophecy bubbles toward him. The Guardian stopped before him, “Touch it. This is something that could happen on the surface of the ocean.”

The Spiral hesitated before wrapping his clawed paw around the bubble. The bubble didn’t pop, and it had surprised the gangly dragon; he had expected it to burst when his claws grasped it. The bubble sparkled and let off a wave of energy before the Spiral’s eyes glowed a dark, mysterious blue. His head spun and felt as it had gone through the waves of a hurricane before the glow disappeared. Azalar was quick to take the bubble from him before releasing it with the others. The Guardian stared at the Spiral before the gangly dragon spoke, “Even if that were to happen, I want to be there to experience it.”

Azalar looked surprised at the dragon’s words before swimming to the cave. He shook the water off before looking at the Spiral. He nodded his head before moving to lift the enchantment off the entrance to their home. The underwater cave system was hard to find unless Azalar wanted a dragon to find them.

“If you decide to come back,” the Guardian spoke. “You will be able to come back.”

The Spiral nodded before leaving the cave quick as he swam to the surface of the water to live his life to its fullest.

Azalar swam through the bubbles that escaped to the surface of the ocean. He stared at each one as he swam fast between them. He needed to find a particular bubble. The Guardian dove, turned and tumbled with ease in the water before staring at the bubble he had wanted to find. The bubbles were his charge, and he was to protect them. Protecting them meant he found that some of the bubbles were willing to show him (and others he wanted to show) the prophecies inside of them. A large, clawed paw wrapped around the bubble with a gentle grasp. Visions of the Spiral finding a new home, settling with a mate and having a nest filled his mind’s eye. Azalar couldn’t help the smile that graced his features. He let go of the bubble before swimming toward the cave system.

He may have ruled his home with an iron fist and lots of rules, but he did it to keep them safe and well protected. Azalar loved the dragons that called his clan home, and he would do anything to keep them safe even if it meant never traveling too far from the caves they called home.
