Despite first impressions, Serezha’s isle isn’t a bad place. The bog outside the cavern is full of brackish water and bloodied bones, but you spy the flicker of fireflies as night falls, the gentle croak of frogs as they emerge from the water to sing into the night. Serezha’s monologue cuts off at this point, and he drops elegantly from the tree, trudging through the water to the cave and calling you with him. You follow him cautiously, ducking through the curtain of lichen into a dark abyss. Serezha taps his staff, setting several torches ablaze with purple flame, illuminating a startlingly open cavern. There are many animal pelts piled in a corner to serve as a bed, though you also spy a hammock hanging above it. Bookshelves line a wall, their shelves filled with ancient tomes, bones, and other concerning artifacts. There is a low set round table in the center, at which a black and red Wildclaw sits, a pile of armor beside him,
“What’s with the guest Serezha? Nevermind, don’t answer,” The Wildclaw growls, turning sapphire blue eyes on you, “I am Hellrise, a guard of the Flyers.”

Hellrise was born to Sephulcher and Camilla, two dragons from vastly different clans in the Sea of A Thousand Currents. While Camilla was not a well known dragon, Sephulcher was the protector of his clan's tombs, a job the Wildclaw took very seriously. Hellrise was captivated by his father’s work, spending much of his early life following him on his routine patrols of the clan tombs, trailing loyally behind him. Hellrise picked up various tips and tricks of the trade, filling away patterns and fighting techniques for the future.

Eventually, Hellrise grew old enough to leave his birthclan, whereupon he set out to explore the regions of the world, trying to find a purpose in life. He traveled to and fro across the land, mostly on his own though sometimes hitching rides with various caravans for a time. By the end of his first year on his own, Hellrise arrived at the arid deserts of the Shifting Expanse, and was promptly annoyed by the mechanical nature of the land. The Wildclaw had grown weary over the past year, finding himself alone and becoming more and more annoyed with his lack of purpose in life. Entering the desert was not a plan he had intended, but he stomped in nonetheless.

It was mere happenstance that drew Hellrise to another living soul in the desert. Hellrise had been trying to get away from a particularly loud thunderstorm, only to nearly step upon a dragon in the sand. It was a young Wildclaw, who introduced himself as Aragorn and stuck close to Hellrise’s side, despite his surly temperament.
Hellrise quickly found that Aragorn soothed his soul, both by presence and personality. As they traveled, Hellrise unintentionally grew closer to the younger Wildclaw, falling into a fatherly role and bringing him small gifts, usually in the form of interesting rocks or old books. Aragorn seemed pleased with this relationship, quickly becoming a son of sorts, though the two never truly defined it.

The pair traveled deeper into the desert, eventually coming across the mesa where the Galestorm Flyers resided. They intended to stay only the night, but Aragorn was enticed by the plethora of old books, magical and not, and begged Hellrise to stay as well. The elder of the two grumbled about it but relented, and was content to become a guard for the Flyer’s at Nantis’ suggestion. While Aragorn studied in the walls of the library, Hellrise fought to keep the borders safe with his Hound by his side. Unfortunately, one crazed mage called Serezha had a tendency to wander with him, which would eventually turn into a strange romance between the two.

Things remained that way for a long while, until the Flyers were set to move to the Windswept Plateau. Hellrise had no particular connection to the Expanse itself, and was actually rather pleased with the prospect of leaving the mechanical side of life behind for the most part, though it took some coaxing for Serezha to see the benefits. Hellrise was particularly glad that his duties remained largely the same, but became more bearable without the extreme weather of the desert to hound him

Hellrise is often characterized as "headstrong" and "temperamental" by his clanmates, despite Serezha and Aragorn insisting otherwise. However, his clanmates would be accurate in their description, if it was an interaction between the fickle Wildclaw and an outsider. He remains fierce and on guard when facing a dragon from another clan (a trait that serves him well in his work) and is often ready to instigate a battle on the slightest notion of aggression from the other side. Best case scenario is a curt acknowledgement if Hellrise is off duty.

Hellrise’s mannerisms are far different among his clan though, changing from aggressive and dominant to something more distant and pensive. He still isn’t fond of long conversations, and compliments or comforts are reserved for only the most thin skinned of his clanmates, but he does not outwardly berate them. In his own way, Hellrise is as protective of his clan as a Guardian is of their Charge.
Capturing the attention and affection of Hellrise is a difficult feat, but rewarding in its own way. Hellrise will soften around Serezha and Aragorn, allowing them to hear his gentle voice and feel the soft touches he grants to his family. His gentleness and warmth is most often reserved for Serezha, his husband, though he will often pretend to not care for the psychotic Skydancer out of annoyance for Serezha’s over dramatic ways. At first glance, the pair seem incompatible, Serezha having a fantastical mind and a bitter heart while Hellrise remained firmly in reality and difficult to talk with. However, as Serezha began to follow Hellrise in his missions, Hellrise found himself growing fond of the strange wit the warlock carried, even listening to his ramblings of his view on life. Eventually, Hellrise saw the fierceness behind the warlock, a curiosity and drive that pushed Serezha to care not about the stigma about him, but about finding a solution for his own plight. Hellrise found himself impressed, and then in love.

With Aragorn, his love came different, felt different. He thought of Aragorn as someone to protect, to guide into something more, whereas Serezha was someone to help stand on his own. He had never thought of him as anything but a son, but still values his presence in his family.
