Oralee

From the moment Oralee was born, she showed how bright, happy and loving she can be. She cooed and cuddled into her mother with eyes bright and curious to see the fantastic world around her. Seabreeze and Sunsky both knew she would always be a symbol of the shining sun under which she was born. To this day, she very much lives up to that expectation for herself. Even far from her parents and living on her own, she still lives as the shining starbeam her parents knew she would be!

Today, Oralee lives in the Light-Touched Outpost, using a loft in the Library as her personal bedroom. She collects many gemstones and songbirds, which help create a beautiful atmosphere in the library for its patrons. She spends her days faceting the gems to the rafters, allowing them to cast rainbows and colorful lights along the bookshelves and walls.

Despite her status as a Dawnbringer, Oralee is humble. She gives love and care to all dragons as if they are just as important as she is. Often, she can be found giving gifts to the other dragons in the clan and singing songs for those around her. When there are festivals or events, she can be found leading tours and running a creative shop in the clan’s marketplace!

When on her own for the day, Oralee usually sits down and creates new badges for the Sunbeam Scouts, an organization for Light Flight dragons to work in the community and earn badges for their efforts. Her friend and mentor, Zain is the Scoutmaster for the Scouts, and she helps out wherever he needs her to.

Once a week, Oralee soaks in the hot springs of the clan’s lair and writes a letter to her mother and father, telling them all about her life and how happy she is to have the friends that she does. They share letters back and forth every week, enjoying hearing from one another as often as they do.

One fateful day, as Akuma was leaving the clan and appointing Oralee the new Matriarch, she was told she would be getting a personal guard. She was excited to potentially make a new friend, but she got more than she bargained for. When Aria walked through the door, Oralee's heart skipped a beat. She tried to keep her cool and breathe, but she sweet lady guardian was too much to bear. Oralee and Aria formed a fast relationship, spending every night and day together. Aria's personality is a little gruffer than Oralee's but they still get along like they've been together all their lives.

Many dragons come to Oralee seeking advice or wishes and often she can meet dragons with less than great intentions for her. Being a Dawnbringer, she has the ability to grant wishes once a year, and many dragons try to earn her favor by showering her in gifts or try conning her into giving them the wish. As her collections of gifts grows, she still has never given anyone who does these things their wishes. Though Oralee is kind, she is not dumb, taking her intellect from her mother. Every year, she seeks out the dragon in the Hewn City lairs who is having the worst start to their year, and she gives them something they have always wanted, just to see the smile of a dragon who is down on their luck.

History And Upbringing

When Oralee was born, her hide was plain, and her mother looked down at her with both sorrow and love. “Oh, my beautiful child… We must pray that the Lightweaver will bless you as a Dawnbringer…” Her colors were that of a true Dawnbringer, a perfect Buttercup primary with a cool Cerulean secondary, and they both know she would have Vermillion markings from the reddish freckles that covered her newborn snout. Gremlocke, the Outpost’s leader, smiled and gently laid a shawl over the hatchling, covering her face and body entirely. “Take her to the Sundial Terrace and lay her upon in when the sun rises. A friend of mine may be able to help.”

The two Guardians made their march for the Sundial Terrace; long and hard of a trek as it was. “Oralee, you’ll be a Dawnbringer… I know you will, my lovely daughter…” Upon the Sundial she rested as the sun peaked over the horizon, and with it a Solstice Dawnbringer rose as well, landing next to the Sundial with a smile. “Hello, Guardians.” The great Imperial looked at the wiggling bundle and then to the parents once more. “I see.” Placing a claw on the hatchling, he whispered a soft incantation and called upon the Lightweaver herself to bless the child.

“This Equinox Dawnbringer will be from here on out be known for her joy and love of life itself. May time itself mark her for her ability to share positivity and the harmony of the world around. Oralee, you are a Dawnbringer!” With that, he took off, seeming to fly into the sun itself.

The young Guardian was brought back to the Outpost before her parents would even unwrap her, and she was presented to Gremlocke. He delicately pulled the shawl aside and smiled. “Well, isn’t she beautiful.” Giggling and happy, the baby Guardian clung to Grem’s claw, cooing at him. Seabreeze and Sunsky kissed her head and said their loving farewells, cuddling with her one last time before leaving her in Grem’s arms. He smiled and vowed to teach her all about her family, so she would know them well.

Growing up, Oralee was given all she could ever want and was encouraged to be as creative as possible, being taught the ways of Light flight and the Dawnbringers. She grew up to be a symbol of joy and love among the clan, helping Zain run the Sunbeam Scouts and using her creativity to make new badges for the Scouts.





The Dawnbringer. A creature of reverence, a soul that burned more effulgent than the flames that rested in the Flamecaller’s ribs. In the darkness of the night, she beamed brighter than any lantern, but it was within the hearts of others where she found herself shining as jewels upon the hoard caught in sunlight.

Claws plucked and pruned and maintained the crafts strewn about her desk. A gaze far kinder than the world it often saw perched downcast and focused, lips parted to take in the gentle air of the library, as if frightened to breathe through her nose, lest it disturb her determined hold on such delicate finery. Once the piece on the badge was fitted, her chest compressed and she breathed out a satisfied, relieved laugh. Her head turned to regard the windows, and the light streaming across the spines of books, bathing her face in its thick, golden hues.

“Morning, already?” She asked herself, almost scolding. A night well spent, creating and creating. The badge glistened, fine glass and gems that bled colour into her palms upon being held. Something in Oralee’s heart gave a delighted thud, and she could not cease the tittering giggle that consumed her.

The songbirds were fed, delicate feet and fleeting chirrups of waking birds hopping about her horns, a cluster of wings and eager beaks tapping the wooden baskets of seed. Oralee found herself whistling along to them, and her wings stretched, mimicking the birds with a delighted smile.

“Oh, to be as beautiful as you all!” She laughed. But her art called to her, and she departed from her companions with a song and a nod of her head. Oralee collected her badges and carried them from the library, snout pointed skyward.
Today would be a gathering day. She could feel the desire welling in her chest, the memories of clawtips tapping on an unearthed gemstone, of ores yet waiting to be refined and added to her collection. Though she was of the mind that any gem needed no refining, she had found that it was a necessary measure to fit within the confines of delicate metal spaces. She bid her clan a swift hello and a swift goodbye, determined to set out and find the beautiful crystals she so badly craved to bask in.

And the day was spent. From the glorious rays of a morning clear and noble, to an evening oozing its plethora of creamy oranges and faded stains of kind pinks and purples, Oralee was about the skies and among the ground, until her bag bulged with her successful visit. She returned home basking in the sweet prostration of her library floor. She counted, two, three times over, ensuring her inventory of its size, before she was collecting the birds to settle in for the night, kissing each and every beak, and bidding each tiny bird a well and goodnight. She slipped into her own nest, a mess of soft fabrics adorned by silks that weaved fine jewels between their thin threads, her head resting against the soft swell of bunched fabrics.

She simply could not wait for the morning to rise, so that she could live the world once again.
