Sunbeam is the youngest of Chisai's first nest, a runt by even the lowest bar. His health is somewhat fragile and he could easily be considered delicate. As a hatchling, he was often confined to nestrest for days if not weeks at a time. Since then, he has grown considerably bigger and stronger, but is still dwarfed, even by other Fae. Even being Chisai's son, status didn't protect him from ridicule. He has always seemed very out of place in the Tangled Wood, his colors making him out to be a Light dragon.
In part because of the subtle teasing and exclusion that he experienced, Sunbeam was always a bit of a solemn child. He wasn't bitter so much as confused and a bit sad. He grew into a shy and solemn boy and most recently into a shy and solemn barely-adult. Chisai started worrying about him when he was born and simply never stopped. He is living proof that she can be something other than cold and calculating. Even when she discovered his hobby (collecting and arranging flowers) she was gentle with him. She always has been, encouraging him to do whatever would make him happy.
Sunbeam should, by all logic, have been sent away to an apprenticeship and a life in another Flight's territory. He is too weak to help with shipments or haul hoards of artifacts and treasure, too easily winded to be a thief and too shy to be intimidating or make deals. This should effectively render him useless to Chisai, and yet, she keeps him around. On the contrary, she won't let him leave the Tangled Wood. She has found little jobs for him in the form of waiting tables and showing guests to their rooms. He's also tasked with eavesdropping on the guests. He's small and quiet, so eavesdropping comes to him naturally.
In whatever spare time he has, Sunbeam wanders through the Tangled Wood, collecting whatever bits of greenery and plants that he can find. Flowers are terribly scarce in the Wood and glowing mushrooms get old after a while, so Sunbeam often picks his way along the borders and the outskirts, where the light isn't afraid to trespass.
Sunbeam is also responsible for one of the biggest breaches of security in Silent Crow history. He currently spends a disproportionate amount of his time pining over a young prince from the Ashfall Waste. Sunbeam was never supposed to meet Prince Icarus of Pyrefall, but somehow, against all the odds, the pair ended up locking eyes on the border that the Tangled Wood shares with the Sunbeam Ruins. What followed was a whirlwind of an unspoken affair. Whether or not love was involved, Sunbeam won't say, but he still speaks of Icarus in only the highest regard.
