The Self-Proclaimed Angel Cream was not born to especially noble parents, or to an especially noble clan. There wasn't anything worthwhile in his little stretch of tangled woods. He had no divine purpose in life. The indignity of it chafed at him. He was born with such beautiful hues, reminiscent of the sunset he had never seen in the shadows of the trees. He felt godly, he felt divine. He ached to crawl out of the woods of his hatching, to follow the light and witness a sunset. Then one day, while most of his clanmates were sleeping, he found himself awake in his nest, staring at the dappled light peeping through the dense canopy of the woods. A sudden feeling came over him and slowly, he arose from the nest, and crawled out of his den. Once outside he broke into a sprint, and then a glide, and finally he was soaring up into the canopy. He broke free from the shackles of the dark, tangled woods, and flew into blinding light. He rose and rose, and there, amongst the clouds, the midday dew of the sky stained his feathers leaving him with the mark of clouds. His already significant ego grew into a god-sized complex. He dived down into the sunbeam runes and announced to the nearest clan that he, indeed was an angel, sent from the tangled woods by the Lightweaver herself to bring light to the darkness. The dragons looked up from their daily business, blinked once at him, and then went back to their own runs of life. Very few dragons gave him a second glance, and even fewer believed him, but Cream lived every day after that, finally being able to see the sunset. |
