Biography
The question is not if the Dire Wolf will be able to hunt a dragon down for you… The question is whether or not you want them alive. The Dire Wolves are known for their ability to track anything with just the hint of a smell or the smallest droplet of blood. They are vicious and without scruples. Born from the harshest terrain where food was slight, only those with the strongest abilities to track survived… And those who survived fought between each other for their lives. As a result they do not get along well with others. The Dire Wolves will do a variety of jobs for high reward that furthers their survival, but only if they believe you will hold your end of the deal. If you don’t or they don’t believe you, your fate will be of a final variety. Their mercurial and untrusting personalities make many hesitate on hiring them, but their guaranteed results are tempting enough to make even the cautious consider. They are often in positions of bounty hunters and contract killers. There is very little that can get out of the sights of a Dire Wolf once it is on their trail. They have built up incredible stamina that allows them to pursue a target without rest for days.
Outside of breeding season you will find a Dire Wolf living on their own. They have what they consider to be territories. Do not enter their territory without an offering to the wolf or you will be met with a swift death. They are extremely territorial even amongst their own subspecies. All approaches should be slow and cautious with submissive posturing. Do not be fooled by any perceived kindness. They are not above manipulation and lulling victims into a false sense of security to get what they want. When hiring be aware that they can switch loyalty to match the highest bidder. If what they are hunting down offers a higher price you might find yourself subject to their particular type of focus instead. Despite the Dire Wolves’ large build they are incredibly fast. When striking it is unclear if it is their blur of wings or blood gracing the air. If you find yourself asking this question it is already too late.
