Vanator
The Hunter
(Gatherer, Tracker, Trapper ) "You must know your ground, your pack, and your quarry." If you were brave enough to wander through the Scarred Wasteland, to seek out the clan that birthed Vanator, you would be told by her parents that she was hatched fighting. They would tell you that she was the first of her nest to claw her way out of her egg, that even as a soft, small newborn she attacked her first enemy, the shell that held her, with a remarkable ferocity. They would tell you that she was the first of her nest to fly, the first to hunt, first chasing after leaves and shadows, then birds and bugs and rodents. They would tell you about her lust for life, if you asked. Even though she left her clan at a young age, she would have made an impression. Vanator flew out of her birth clan on the edge of Plague territory like a hurricane of teeth and claws, eager to test herself against the challenges of the Abiding Boneyard. The harsh violence of the landscape matched her personality and gave her plenty of opportunities to track, hunt, and explore. Vanator never backs down from a fight or a challenge. Usually her speed, ferocity, and sharp claws are enough to carry her through any storm, but not always. Lobison was the one who discovered her laying limp among the thorns and sandy soil, her wings torn, her side scored and her eyes cloudy. He was the one who lead Iset, the clan's healer to her, appealing to the dragon's kind nature to save this perfect stranger. She asked him later why he did it, why he worked so hard to save her life. Sometimes he'll say that he isn't sure. Sometimes he'll teasingly say something about how it was love at first sight. They both know that isn't true, though. Their bond has been created over years of working together, hunting together, flying together, and confiding in each other. Their bond is forged in blood, sweat, and tears. He is the only dragon who can calm her, who can tame her temper and slow her frantic pace. He is the only dragon she trusts to lead her. The clan leaders are always pleased with their efficiency. But she really only cares about spending time with her mate.  |
