Kavenia

Scales Member, Assassin

fNCCULN.png
kJbREsZ.png Easily the most immoral dragon in the lair, Kavenia is known for killing to alleviate boredom. The fact that she’s an assassin is less because the clan needed one and more that she would probably turn on her own clanmates if they didn’t let her kill others. Her murderous nature would make her a perfect fit for Hathor’s team, if not for the fact that Ma’at refuses to enable her in any way possible and threatened to tie Hathor into a constrictor knot if she allowed it. Thus, Kavenia is a member of the Scales, much to Ma’at’s dismay, as Demeter ordained that she had to be placed somewhere where she could vent her killing energy without also killing her clanmates in the tow.

As far as Kavenia’s concerned, she doesn’t care what her title is as long as she gets blood on her claws. Besides, compared to the daily explosions that Muffin wrecks on the clan and Hathor’s cooking, she’s relatively harmless, and provides really good advice on how to shut a dragon up, whether it be temporarily or permanently. Ma’at’s not convinced, though, and so she forces Kavenia to take on all the difficult Scales work in hopes that it’ll tire her out so much that she won’t be able to do anything illegal. This hasn’t worked yet, but with how stubborn Ma’at is, she’s still looking for something that will.

Though assassination is a shady business Demeter and Hathor would prefer not to participate in, it’s still something that’s got to be done, especially when the enemy isn’t someone Hathor’s underlings can deal with alone. When that happens, Kavenia is dispatched to take down the target, and anything and anyone around the target, as there’s no point in paying her to do such a thing if she gets caught on the first try. Ravanai is usually sent to watch out for Kavenia, as the Fae possesses the magic to erase any trail Kavenia has left behind. While the two don’t really get along as friends, they’re excellent at working together, though Kavenia has to keep reminding herself not to kill the Fae out of boredom.

It’s far easier to assassinate someone with magic, but despite being an Arcane dragon, Kavenia possesses none of her own. Nobody is quite sure whether or not she’s lying, but considering how she uses her wings to fly unlike Arcane dragons who normally just levitate, she’s probably telling the truth. Probably. No, just because her runes are glowing doesn’t mean she has magic. Stop looking. She’ll stab you.

ECIWfsp.png Kavenia has an utter lack of regard for the rules. In fact, if there’s a rule, she takes Arcane’s pursuit of rulebreaking to the extreme and does her best to mow it down with the intent to keep it buried and crushed so far into the ground that it’ll never get back up again. Her disregard for rules also means that she has no qualms about breaking into places, or strolling into her clanmates’ dens at inconvenient times. However, it’s not like she steals anything or breaks anything, so most dragons tolerate her.

She gets along with almost everyone in the lair, having a friendly personality and a temperament that’s forty percent kind and caring and sixty percent sarcastic. Asking her for tips or advice will get you a response that will both educate and shame you from the heavens to the ends of the earth. Asking her for help to do something will get your ancestors cursed from the past to the present, but the point is that she’ll end up helping out anyway, and that’s really what’s important.

There are quite a few dragons who don’t trust her, however, the first and foremost of them being Ma’at, whose law-abiding character is rivaled by Kavenia’s existence. Erigone and Universa also don’t seem to trust her, but seeing as the first is shady himself and nobody cares too much about the opinions of the latter, few dragons pay attention. Kavenia certainly doesn’t. She does, however, seem to dislike Kayania, and stays away from Kerendia at all costs. She claims that this is because she hates Kayania’s card games and Kerendia’s weaving, but there’s probably a bit more to that.

She also seems to have an irrational fear of Arete, but really, that’s to be expected, considering the Spiral’s tendency to go berzerk. It would probably be more suspicious if she wasn’t afraid of Arete, but then again, if she wasn’t, then she probably would’ve had Arete killed already.

The comet that follows her around like a spooky nightlight isn’t actually something Kavenia acquired by herself. Ravanai dug it up while going through part of the clan’s ventilation shaft, and after activating it with magic, it decided that its lifelong goal was to stick to Kavenia as much as possible. By all accounts, Kavenia was rather annoyed by the floating chunk of rock, and spent a good amount of time trying to have it transmuted, or blown into crystal dust. Nowadays, though, she’s become rather resigned to it and has been heard occasionally talking to it like an old friend.

Perhaps the comet is attracted to her because every piece of apparel she wears is enchanted? Comets are known to gravitate towards powerful sources of magic, after all, and Kavenia’s outfit is enchanted to the point where Nagara would weep in tears at the sight of its splendor (fortunately he’s too busy trying to escape the mountain range.) Mythic took a look at it once and figured that her apparel were all high-levelled items imbued with strange, ancient magic from the past. Kavenia just laughed, and then immediately hit the next dragon who tried to inspect her clothing. Since then, nobody’s dared to stare too long at what she’s wearing.

The halo she wears is her main weapon, and she can will it to shrink or expand. Her most common method of killing is to fling the halo around the neck of her enemy, then order it to shrink and quickly decapitate the unfortunate soul. The halo is made out of solid Arcane magic, but definitely wasn't made by Kavenia. After all, she doesn't have magic. There's no way she would've been able to create such a thing.

And no, she is not the living representation of galaxy, no matter what her belly looks like. She's considering killing the next questioner, just to really get the point through.

The Entourage of Destiny, the Oracle, the Spinner of Fate

fNCCULN.png
~~
Its name was Destiny.

It came into being after the gods fell to their slumber, brought forth by the will of Fate, the First Entity, the Fateweaver. Its purpose was to give every living creature a path that they must walk upon, for while Fate could dictate what must happen in the world, its power failed when it came to the individual. Upon her was gifted the flame some called passion, the motivation that drives living beings to continue onwards. With this power, Destiny wove together an era of peace and prosperity. The creatures that were finally able to rear their heads in wake of the gods' fierce battle found dreams to chase, and the world flourished.

But this era was not the one that Fate desired, for evils still ran unrestrained across the world. And it saw, what Destiny could not see, the arrival of the dragons that would ruin everything. It told Destiny of this fate, but Destiny was stubborn. Was the world not perfect now? Why would dragons - concepts of a creature neither known or believed in - appear now?

Vain and proud was Destiny of the future it had woven; it completely forgot that it only had control over the futures of individuals, not the world itself. Fate stayed quiet, seeing that it was not to convince the second entity, and waited.

Soon, the mortals grew just as suffused with pride as Destiny had become. They meddled with magicks, and thought themselves the top of the world. They thought they could control everything - even the creation of life itself. And so they attempted something worse than death - to create life.

Destruction followed.

And the Arcanist was born, bringing to end the Second Age.

"It was something meant to happen in all the potential futures-"

"You could have stopped it!" The flame in its chest quivered, threatening to go out, very much like the many lives that had just been extinguished. Fate was unmoving before it, expression dark and devoid of all emotion. Was this the entity that had created her? The one that cared not for the deaths of so many? Could it even feel?

"... Destruction must always precede creation," it finally said.

"But they did not have to be destroyed. They-"

Its voice was cold. "There is a new age coming. Best you rise to meet it. You have your task."

"Not for them," Destiny responded, desolately. "I will not weave for them."

The fire within it flickered.

But in the end, Destiny did continue to weave the destinies of those new dragons whose birth and brought to death the world it had loved. However, a part of it seemed to have died with the Second Age. Soon, Destiny became numb to it all - those it wove futures for, and the conflicts and advances of the new world. It became cold and listless, doing what Fate wished with its power, and not really caring what Fate was trying to achieve.

It didn't matter what it wanted. It no longer cared about what it wove. Tapestry after tapestry, stories of entire lifespans, were woven from its loom and casted away.

Until Chance changed everything.

The Third Entity had always been a finicky one, and Destiny had not ever truly acknowledged it. After all, what was the power of luck, of chance, compared to the massive control Fate or itself had over the world? Besides, Chance had been born with the creation of the dragons, and its existence was a bitter reminder of the carnage that had been wreaked. Destiny wanted nothing to do with it. So when Chance slipped away to the mortal realm, Destiny was not one to stop the latter.

However, just because it didn't acknowledge Chance didn't mean it was safe from the latter's antics. It was not long before the threads that Destiny wove with became tangled, the tapestries of its work torn into tatters, some charred, and others gone completely. This brought Destiny back into reality, for it realised what mad thing Chance was contemplating and putting into action. It sent a dream message, an ability of all entities, to the wayward Chance, and told it to stop lest it ruined everything.

After all, it had suffered once already at the hands of Fate. Should Chance anger the primal entity, not even Destiny could fathom what would happen. Fate's mind had already been unravelling due to Chance's antics in the mortal realm. A Fate in control was terrifying, but one out of control was something Destiny couldn't even imagine.

But Chance did not listen, and before Destiny could do anything to alleviate the situation, Fate stormed down from the astral realm to give Chance a proper teaching. A lecture turned into an argument, an argument into a fight, and without warning, for the first time since the beginning, Fate lashed out - and tore Chance apart.

The resulting wave of magic rippled through all the realms, and at once, all of Destiny's tapestries shattered.

Splintering the flame that still flared within it.

"You are not in your right mind. Let me help you."

"... Who are you?"

"It does not matter. Close your eyes. Breathe -"

"... Kill them. Kill them all."

"This isn't like you, Fate. You are a gentle entity. You care about dragonkind. You waited eons for their arrival."

"...If you will not help me, then you are against me. If you are against me, you must die. Anyone who is against me must die!"

"Fate-"

"Kill. Them. Fool."

"... I cannot."

"Then die."

In the following battle, Destiny perished, for the very dragons whose existence it had scorned.

It fell to the mortal realm, numb, but not before ripping Fate's power apart from its soul.

What happened next, it didn't know, didn't care. All that it knew was that it fell to the mortal realm, broken.

I've seen so many walk this earth

With purpose in their eyes

But I know that the "life" they're living

Is nothing but a lie

Every day, they wake up only

To do the things they hate

Believing that all will be okay

If they left it up to Fate

Do you know who weaves your fate?

Do you know who controls the stars shining in your eyes?

Your destiny will be a cruel one, dear

If you leave it for me to decide
