Most familiars steer clear of Icarus's side. However, he can tame even the most feral of souls. Most dragons charge him with handling Boss familiars.

"When we condemn or castigate ourselves for any folly, we are letting loose an air of negativity.
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. Providence has its appointed hour for everything.
We cannot command results, we can only try."

Icarus was the lastborn of a clutch of four children. All of which were Pearlcatchers. While his mother was demure and accepting of the natural order of the world, his father was not. Daedalus was a vain child of light and believed as all his species did, his superiority towards all dragonkind. He scorned the Shadowbinder and would rather end his life by flinging himself into the Sea of One Thousand Currents the day his children opened their eyes. Icarus and his three siblings were raised alone with only Naucrate... and an unseeable god. It was believed that children born in this territory are to learn or die, self-sustainment was prized among the Shadowbinder's followers. Existence was a constant struggle, and that singular lesson repaid what their father could not teach in spades.

His mother was a spiritual miracle who preached the tales of her guardian deity. She never forgot her home of the Starfall Isles, but never missed it either. She refused to take a solitary and dangerous journey that could potentially kill her hatchlings and instead peacefully raised her clutch under the thick and protective brambles of the Tangled Wood and worked hard to be an apostle of the Shadowbinder. Some days when her children would play, Icarus remained beside her, listening, learning. It wasn't his mother who taught him, but the Shadowbinder herself. Under these two influential forces Icarus learned how to share secrets in leaves and the importance of maintaining an inner focus. It was these skills and all an unbreakable spirit which allowed one to commune with the gods. Many a passerby would rest their heads in this den of fallen trees carved out by the Pearlcatcher family, and most who came would take advantage of this act of kindness. Seeing strangers belittle his pearl-less mother would send Icarus into a frenzy beyond comprehension. As Icarus's aggression grew, visitors became less frequent. With such a defender, everything seemed at peace with the world. That is to say, peaceful until a whisper on a maple leaf warned them of two dragons they would soon meet. Icarus responded to his goddess's call, running into the Wispwillow Grove until his targets revealed themselves.

Icarus looked disapprovingly at the non-shadow dragons, could these be the ones? "Why would the Shadowbinder favor these outsiders, mother? I don't trust them, even if she does." Naucrate responded by closing her son's mouth with a paw and shaking her head. "You know they can hear you, correct?" Icarus looked behind him and groaned softly before returning the glare Lotus sent him. "We can leave if you want us to. Just don't talk behind our backs about it." Naucrate padded over to Lotus's side. "No, ignore my son, dear. He's just weary of travelers. We don't have good experiences with them." Lotus tilted her head. "Then why take us in?" Naucrate's tail curled around Delt's maple leaf and she showed it with a smile. "We cannot refuse a cry for help. Your friend must be very well versed in our ways if he knew to call upon the Shadowbinder. Have you thanked him yet?" Lotus turned to the leaf and walked back to her companion's side, who was chatting up a storm with Nod, who was listening despite the droopy expression on his face.

"My, she seems like a lovely dragon. Why not get to know her, Icarus?" Icarus's nose curled in distaste. "Absolutely not. She's just a stranger who wants to take advantage of our hospitality." He didn't know how it happened, but the next thing he knew, Icarus was pinned down by a furious Wildclaw. He smirked before pushing against her with his hind legs hard enough to send her backwards and off him. "Now this, I can get down with! COME AT ME!" Delt hid behind Naucrate, who held onto him firmly in an attempt to calm down the shivering Spiral. "We are not meant to fight our guests, Icarus!" It was as if he never heard his mother's pleas. The Wildclaw and Pearlcatcher were an even match, it seemed. Both continued on, scarred and bruised, neither gave an inch. It wasn't until a huge bolt of mist blasted right in between them did they stop. Icarus and Lotus turned to Naucrate, her horn aglow in the colors of the Arcane. The ground below them radiated a strange energy that sent both of the dragons to the ground, knocked out.

Icarus came to first. He was not stricken with starvation as Lotus and Delt were. And in the calmness before dawn, heard his mother praying. Incense surrounded her, she was speaking in a dialect unknown. She was asking forgiveness for her son's actions yesterday. Icarus sighed and sat beside his mother. His dark eyes closed as he mimicked his mother's prayers. He was manning up to his mistake, asking if he could do anything. Another maple leaf flew by, with it whispers of a raspy voice known only as the mother of shadow. 'You are to take them North, where someone awaits you.' Naucrate softly cried before embracing her son tighly, he could no longer remain here, his path was marked. Unable to refuse this command, Icarus took the duo Northward.

"Is that not the opposite way we were headed?" Lotus mentioned pointedly, crossing her arms as she awaited a response. He nodded. "It is, and I am but a mortal here to carry out The Shadowbinder's wishes. You will come willingly. Otherwise, I will drag you myself."
