Biography

..........“...Hm? I don’t believe I’ve ever seen you before. Well, that’s hardly anything new. Feel free to stay as long as you want. But once you’ve found your way, you must leave. That is how the rules of my inn is.”

“...What? There is no need to look at me like that. Many have come here before you, as many will come after you, all lost in their goals and aspirations. For some reason, they all inevitably find themselves up on my doorsteps. The inn calls out to those who are lost, and they respond. I merely help them find their way, as I will, you.”

“Are you confused? It’s alright to be. Many do not understand the reason for them arriving as well. However, with time, you will surely find your way. You might not know where your path is, as many are clueless of upon their initial arrival, but in the end, they are soon sent upon their way; Some need only stay for several days before their path becomes clear. Others take longer. Maybe months. Sometimes years, and though it is rare, occasionally, some stay for decades before their departure.”

“Oh, there’s no need to fret. You are in no rush to find out why you have been called here by the inn. Didn’t I tell you? You’re welcomed to stay as long as you must. Your departure is only necessary once you realize what you are here for.”

“Now, I believe I have an empty nest just for you. Feel free to talk to any of the others here- Perhaps you might gain some insight as to why you have arrived here? If you need anything, do not hesitate to let me or some of the other dragons who look after the inn know. We’ll be more than happy to help… Hee hee…”

....................Lana, the Innkeeper

..........Upon your initial arrival to the inn, Lana, the strange Guardian with an aura of wisdom and mystery- even more so when compared to that of the other Innkeepers- would undoubtedly be one of the first dragons who you approach and catches your eyes. To her esteemed guests, she is only generous and kind, and most dragons are immediately calmed by her presence in spite of their own confusion regarding the circumstances in which they happened upon the inn. With gentle words and firm reassurances, there is no doubt you will be in good hands for the duration of your stay at the inn, however long that may be.

If you had the opportunity to speak to some of the older residents of the inn, you may come to discover that some of them seem aware of Lana’s history, before she became Innkeeper of this obscure establishment. Fewer would be willing to part with this knowledge, but from the scraps and pieces you manage to gather, you would come to realize that, in her prime, Lana was a feared and fabled war general, respected yet revered for her intellect and cunning. The stories of her victories which led to such a reputation will be a bit harder to piece together, but if you are staying for the foreseeable future, then rest assured that you will have more than enough time on your hands to unravel this particular mystery.

Still, there yet remains a knowing look in the Innkeepers eyes that you can’t quite ignore of a secret, an untold truth of sorts, about the nature of the inn itself that has her amused, almost entertained, at the expense of her guests’ ignorance. You won’t be able to glean such information from the other guests. They are, after all, as clueless as you are.

Make no attempt to try and pry this secret from her. Better dragons than you have tried, and failed. If ever you doubted her guile and intellect, she will, without fail, allude this truth from you with her clever distractions and misleading words. It is clear that the Innkeeper Lana appears to show no intention of parting with this particular bit of knowledge, more than content to hoard it for herself even while she has been most generous and giving with most other things.

What mysteries lie within this inn which begat such secrecy? If only you knew…

Mirror Poem by MythicalViper
I was the youngest among my clanmates
But none would deny my place in war
For what I lacked in power
I made up with wit on par

I was the youngest among my clanmates
And I heard you were the same
As the war unfolded before us
I remember asking for your name

You were formal and you were brilliant
You led with determination in your eyes
And though you were always silent
I couldn't help but be mesmerised

But fool you were, you had your flaws
You sought to lay claim to my heart
You courted me amidst the wars
Three challenges did you impart

They were compliments and insults
They were disdain and were games
I knew what you were trying
But you didn't know the same

You wanted to seek the very best
The wisest of the wise
Well, darling, you've found her at last
Before your very eyes

But still you presented challenges
Still you dare doubt the guile of my mind
Do you think me not good enough for you?
Or is there something else you wish to find?

I can see what you're thinking
I know what you plan to do
You should know in this game of war
I'll always be ahead of you.

Story by GrinningFox

..........“Lana, are you still listening?”

Lana broke out of her state and looked at her brother. She was listening, sort of. She was half listening and half wondering why she couldn’t be taught by the elder himself. She didn’t understand why he didn’t want to teach her. Yes, it was because of the old ways, but weren’t they passed that?

“I’m still listening, I just…” the guardian played around with a pebble on the ground.

Lohani sighed. He understood why she was upset. He’s went through this often with her, but she was still learning almost directly from the elder. Lohani took immaculate notes on everything he was taught, writing things down word-for-word most of the time. “I know this is hard somedays, but I think the next subject might interest you,” the male guardian said pulling out a notebook. Flipping through it, he stopped on a page with a crudely drawn nebula. “Ready to learn about reading one’s fate in the stars?”

Her eyes lit up. This was something she was looking forward to. She listened as Lohani taught her everything she needed to know; where to look for specific stars, what the intensity and size meant, and how to tell if clusters were related or not. A few hours had passed in what seemed like five minutes and Lana stood up to stretch her legs and wings.

“Tonight would be a good night to try what I taught you,” her brother said.

The female guardian followed Lohani outside. The stars shone above them, clear and bright. Lohani looked around the dark expanse, making sure he knew what the stars would say. “Ready?” he asked Lana.

“Yep,” she replied as she started to study the sky. She needed to look at her notes a couple times when she got confused, but she still got everything correct. Lohani wasn’t surprised. His sister caught on to the teachings as quick as he did. The two spent the rest of the night looking at the stars and practicing Lana’s newfound skill.

~

..........“Lohani!” Lana called when she saw her brother. He had stayed out most of the afternoon and into the night, but she couldn’t wait until tomorrow to tell him. “Lohani, I saw my future! I woke up early this morning to read the stars and saw something wonderful. I’m going to find a soulmate, and not just any soulmate, one that will love me dearly, and I him.”

Lohani snickered, “That’s what you saw? You could try and see anything you want, and you chose your future mate? That’s not very important in the grand scheme of things.”

The female guardian’s smile faded. She just found out that she is destined to have a loving mate, and her brother thinks she’s being childish. “You may think it’s silly, but it isn’t to me. I’ve been wondering about it for quite some time now.” She turned and went into her den, ignoring anything else Lohani had to say.

She fell asleep that night dreaming of the stars she read. She saw them glowing bright, lighting up the sky around them. She caught a glimpse of red. Focusing on the spot, it started to grow, outlining the form of a dragon. Features started to come into focus. A guardian, the color of the fiery sunset, with starlight on his wings and ancient writing along his body. His eyes came into view. Beautiful fire eyes, glowing bright with passion. Though it was only a dream, she spent the night with her future lover, laughing and playing around.
