Born from a one night stand, Newtszer and his brother Syrin was left on the outskirts of a trading hub. The eggs, wrapped in a basket, were taken in by the locals and later were taken to separate clans. Newtszer was passed around to multiple clans, training in different trades. When he was old enough to live on his own, he decided to find a clan that helped raise unwanted dragons like himself. For years he worked with hatchlings and grown dragons alike, but after some time he began to feel lonely. He wanted a mate and to have hatchlings of his own. So he went to the trading hub’s local tavern and met a gorgeous silver pearlcatcher. Her name was Nola, And from there they spent the night talking. they were perfect together. They liked the same things and enjoyed the same activities. After a couple more dates and moving in with each other they went on to have 3 hatchlings. Two sons and a daughter. They were his whole life. Newtszer raised the hatchlings with compassion and so much love that he did not notice his mate was disappearing for long periods of time. Following her one night, into the very tavern they had met, to his horror he discovered that Nola had been courting a silver Skydancer. And he had accepted. Newtszer, heartbroken, returned to his nest to cry holding his hatchlings.

The next day, he packed up his hatchlings, leaving the clan of his now ex-mate. They traveled with a flying caravan, deep into the plague region finding a clan full of travelers. Here Newtszer used his vast knowledge of trade work to raise his three hatchlings. His sons grew up to become a powerful duo of the forge. Swords, armor, even cups and chopsticks, these dragons could make anything they were asked of. His daughter, armored by the skill of her brothers, became a guard of the Plaugebringer. Newtszer couldn’t be more proud. The happiness filling his heart warmed him to his very core watching his children grow up and be successful. In the back of his head, however, where the small memories of the hatchlings he cared for that were abandoned. So he decided that he would return to his old clan, helping to raise the young ones, because no dragon should live the way he did. Hugging his children, he made his way back, escorted by his daughter. As they said their goodbyes he was given a small box made of metal. His daughter told him, ‘ If you ever feel that you miss us, Dad, know that we love you.’ Newtszer opened it to find a ring of white opal encased in silver. He kissed her head and hugged her one last time before she took off.

One year passed with Newtszer chasing after little ones, rescuing eggs, and being there if dragons needed it. Newtszer began to get tired. This recent group had no manners for their elders, and it was making him grumpy. It didn’t help that he hadn’t had a day off in months.
The other helpers began to notice as well, some saying he needed a mate for the night. This just made him more irritable. Months went by, and Newtszer went from grumpy to a crotchety old man. Only the bravest dared to speak to him. One Foster, after hearing the older hatchlings talk of a game to prove how brave they were with ‘crotchety Newtszer’, decided to call in a favor from a friend. A tavernkeeper of the plague region had brought leftover food for the rescue as well as some local gossip. Word was that an older pearlcatcher was looking for someone to spend her days with. But this one was picky. She wanted someone older, who had a trade, and was good with hatchlings. The foster, pulling a couple of strings, was able to get the pearlcatcher and her clan leader to visit the rescue.

Newtszer was tasked with bathing the youngest hatchlings when the couple arrived. The first to land was a Female guardian, black as tar with wings as red as blood. She wore old dragon bones and red rags draped over her chest and back. The green glass in the skull on her head darkened her eyes as they scanned the area. There was no mistaking her, she was the leader of a plague clan. The second to land was a pearlcatcher? Newtszer had to do a second take because he thought an orange tree had landed. The pearlcatcher was covered in bark and her wings full of leaves and oranges that swayed with each movement. She landed next to the guardian, smiling at the approaching coatl foster. Her smile lit up the area and sent butterflies in Newtszers stomach. It had been some time since he had felt this feeling and He became distracted from his task watching her. That is until the hatchling in his claws splashed him in the eye. Turning to scold the infant he couldn’t help but laugh at the bubble ball with eyes. He returned to his task, still thinking of the beautiful pearlcatcher. After the hatchling was all clean, cooing at the newborn as he wrapped them in a towel, he was startled.

“You’re really good with them,” the pearlcatcher was sitting across the pool, cleaning a spiral hatchling. He watched as she tickled the little one making them wriggle.
Newtszer careful picked up the newborn and placed them in their carrier, “You are as well. My name is Newtszer.”
“Rarity.”
Newtszer picked up another hatchling from a carrier, placing them in the pool.
“Where in the plague domain are you from? Haven’t seen trees like you from there.”
“The Wandering Contagion and this is but a skin spell. Some members in my clan are, ‘picky’ about your breeding, this keeps them off my tail. That and the youngins love it.”
“You got clutches of your own?”
“No, I take care of all the hatchlings of my clan. I’m a Teacher if you will. I have heard you are quite the teacher as well here?”
“Not a very good one,’ Newtszer scratching his head before rubbing down the hatchling, “I mostly teach the basics. If they want to learn to smith then I’m pretty good. Taught my boys everything they know.”
“If you are such a good blacksmith, why here? Why be a caretaker?” Rarity wrapped the spiral hatchling holding him in her claws to her chest. The baby snuggling into the warmth.
“Because I was just like them. Abandoned and forced to always be on the move, never allowed to stay in a place to call home. I want to help them find their home, to show them that they may not have one yet but right now they are loved. Safe.”
Newtszer takes the hatchling in his claws and nuzzles their head before drying them and placing them in the carrier.
He looks up to see Rarity smiling, rocking the newborn in her arms. They both continue to wash the rest of the newborns, chatting and having a great time with the infants. Rarity asks if he would like to go hunting together and Newtszer agreed.

Now the two of them are mates. Newtszer moved in with Rarity and moved with the clan to Rotrock Rim, building a hutch out of bone facing the sunset. Both of them would volunteer at the rescue, and help out with their own clan. After exchanging amethyst jewelry on their 6 month anniversary, they decided that they wanted to raise a hatchling of their own. Rarity was no longer capable of having eggs, due to an injury, so they decided to adopt the very place they volunteered. They took in a little red banescale girl, named Gemstar. 1/29/21
