Biography

587.png

Desuto was born to the first clutch of the clan, back when Hayes was still the alpha male. Her brothers both left to find a new home very early on, while she stayed by her mother's side. Her mother quickly arranged a marriage between her and Gallius, a gallant Guardian prince from the Tangled Wood.

Desuto was nervous about meeting Gallius, worried that he would not like her, or worse, that she wouldn't like him. She needn't have worried. Gallius arrived after nearly a week of travel, accompanied by his loyal Shadow Serpent. He was tall, muscular, and so very kind. He wasn't the brightest, but he was loyal and loving. Upon their very first meeting, Desuto knew she would love him. They were wed immediately, with a grand ceremony.

Even as a young dragoness, Desuto was very passionate. Her very first clutch held four such wonderful eggs, and she and Gallius loved them very much. Each of them was so special, and she hoped that each would hatch into a beautiful young drake. Gallius insisted on patrolling the nesting grounds all throughout her eggs' time there, though everyone knew that the place was safe. But all was not well. Despite her best efforts caring for the nest, her first egg failed to hatch on its own. The others had hatched hours ago. Desuto was fretful, but she waited quietly for the little egg. Before long, it began to smell foul; Gallius gently suggested that the egg was not meant to ever hatch. Desuto could not bear such a thought, and so the two waited still longer for the rotted egg. Finally, they agreed to help it hatch themselves. Desuto carefully cracked the very outer shell of the egg and peeled the brown fibrous shell back. The tiny little mulberry boy lay still, almost as though he were sleeping, but Desuto knew better. She and Gallius buried their first hatchling, solemn. She knew that she still had three wonderful hatchlings, but what plagued her was this one. She had done everything that she was supposed to- why had things gone so wrong? She was consumed by grief, and so Gallius reared their first nest himself. Once the young drakes were grown enough to stay out of trouble, Gallius tried to console her. Their fallen hatchling would surely be waiting for them in the after place, said he. Sometimes someone could do everything right and still things would not turn out as planned. This fact pained Desuto greatly, but she learned to live with it. After all, the world is as it is.

Four clutches later, during a cold and barren winter, when Desuto and Gallius were older, her mother did something unspeakable. She ordered Gallius away, sending him to serve their revered deity, the Gladekeeper. It was supposed to be a great honor, but no festival would be held. He left obediently, not one to argue, after saying his goodbyes to his friends and Desuto. Despite herself, Desuto was filled with sorrow. Bitterness. Anger. Rage.

She was consumed with fury, and, reckless, she leapt at her mother, roaring her anger for all the clan to hear. Lisari clawed at her daughter desperately for a few moments, tried to kick her off, but she knew it was in vain. Desuto hacked and slashed at her mother until finally, she mustered all her strength into pinning her mother down. Lisari gave in quickly, and lay, quiet, on the ground. She relinquished leadership of the clan to Desuto, giving up all of her titles to her daughter.

As leader, Desuto lacks the strength, the authority of her mother. Where Lisari was strict, intimidating, Desuto is gentle and kind. She rules with a motherly tone, her generosity and serenity setting her clan at ease.

After a long time of her reign, she was approached by a dragon. The great dragon claimed to be Gallius. Yet... he was Light; her mate had been Shadow. Still, she was willing to listen to an explanation. He spoke of uncertainty. He thought that he had worked for a great maned god. He remembered a darkness, and a light, and things. He remembered pain. He remembered a guarding time. Mostly, though, he spoke of her. He said he remembered seeing her, and a feeling of happiness and confusion and joy. He promised that he would be her prince again, if she would only let him love her. She was startled, but... he spoke like her Gallius. His eyes were different, but the same. She knew it was illogical, but she believed him. And so she took him to be her mate again. She helped him to remember what he wasn't on his own. Reminded him of his Charge, talked about their children. He listened to these stories about this familiar stranger, this him, with great interest.

Desuto maintained a loose rule over Drakel until Lucien came along, at which point she quietly and peacefully forfeited her reign to the roving conqueror.
