Shardset
Notes:
-His coloring doesn't give the impression that he is from a long line of light ambassadors and scholars, but that wouldn't be the only thing that distinguishes Shard from his ancestors.
-His parent's names were Tiche Sunblind and Cross Harshgleam, both warriors and explorers for the citadel when they were young. They then fell into line as they aged and became light scholars.
-Robotic prosthetic hind legs
"I come from a long line of scholars. As far back as I can remember being told. My ancestors on Sorienth were noble light scholars for many generations. My parents were both light scholars. Suffice it to say that my parents were at least a little surprised when I showed interest in the militia."
"Do you see it, Captain?"
Buttons flipped her head back and forth, glancing through the main viewport and back to her captain.
"Is it an asteroid?" Shard asked, squinting his pale eyes.
"No no no! It's a ship I believe. The--
"The Warshway. It's a plague space station. Living quarters. Part of the Wandering Contagion sector." Tesla interjected, looking up from the readout on his tablet. The craning captain furrowed his brow. The odd mass ahead of them didn't seem to be of the Plague element. Its structure was crystalline and jagged like ice.
"The moment we entered the system we were hit with a distress signal. It was definitely coming from this area." Tesla added.
"What about the ships down there?"
Shard gestured through the window to a small flurry of much smaller ships just through the opposing planet's atmosphere.
"Could be drones or scouts of some kind. If I had to speculate, this plague living station arrived here only recently. This system hasn't been mapped yet, nor is it in our database. The SW is probably planning on terraforming something in the area." The spiral spoke is short bursts, just to make sure he wasn't going to be cut off by his commander.
"Have you made contact?"
"No--I...? Are we docking? I mean..." Tesla looked down to his tablet for an answer, but suddenly it was blank.
"Th-the signal's disappeared... Should we--wait, this system is pretty much unclaimed. It could have just been pirates or something."
Tesla said, correcting himself and turning back toward the dashboard to run his fingers over the main screen.
"Tesla, just see if you can pick up a signal. I have.. some feeling about this."
Tesla nodded and started on the control panel, turning to fit his blank tablet back into the dash while Shard returned to his stage on the bridge.
"One. Two. One. Two. This is the Atlas of the Mirrorlight Promenade. Authentication: 30347856. Attempting contact with the station Warshway. Over." Tesla called over the radio.
There was silence, then radio static from the other end. The feed went cold for a moment and then the static bubbled up again.
"This is Commander Shard Suncell, captain of the Atlas. Please respond if you are in trouble. Over."
There was silence on the bridge. No one dared speak for fear they might miss a sound from the other end of the line.
"Head toward the station, but keep your distance." Shard commanded as he broke the silence. He kept the communication line open and began to scan the signal again, making sure they were narrowing in on the right source...
