Biography

Caerula is a shy little tundra. Which is why it surprised everyone when Heiying came in, half carrying, half dragging a bewildered looking tundra, and Caerula rushed over to them and placed a wing over Sorairo. To this day, she couldn't tell you why she did it. But they have remained steadfast friends and occasional lovers. Caerula is one of the few that knows Sorairo's past.

***

Caerula is a tinkerer, hacker, and maker. She mostly keeps to herself and her projects. If any dragon has something that they need repaired, they bring it to Caerula. It was Caerula who brought electricity to the lair, harnessing the power of the wind on the plains. Her lifelong friend, Sorairo, felt at a loss for anything he could do to help her. Most of the time, he would just sit and watch her work on something or take something apart, her deft claws probing cautiously here, moving with confidence there. They were both content just to be in each other's presence.

The first day of the second annual Lightning festival, Sorairo came galloping up to Caerula.
"Hey Caerula! It's the festival! YOUR festival! I managed to dig up some sprockets. Let's go to the Market and see what they have!"

Caerula barely glanced up. "I'm working on something very *ouch* delicate. I really can't *ouch* leave this right now."

Sorairo pouted at her, but she didn't notice. "What are you doing? Does it hurt?"

"Mmm? Yeah, well, it is just little shocks. I haven't managed to get the voltage right. If only I had an extra pair of claws."

"You could always ask Yoji or Havilah?"

"Yoji's claws are way too big for the type of work I am doing, and the Sand dragons aren't exactly the most friendly dragons in the lair."

"You're one to talk..." muttered Sorairo under his breath.

"Hmm? What was that?"

"Nothing!" shouted Sorairo, who was headed towards the door. "I'm headed to the festival. I'll see you later!"

"Mmhmm, ok." said Caerula, not even looking up.

**

Sorairo didn't normally go out by himself. His memory problems usually led to him getting lost or forgetting where he was going or what he was doing. But he was angry at Caerula for not wanting to come to the festival with him, so he left in a rush without telling anybody. Thankfully, the path to the festival area was well trodden, so even when Sorairo forgot about being mad and why he was out by himself, he thought the day was nice, and he just continued walking along the path. As soon as he saw the first lightning emblem, he remembered! He wanted to buy something for Caerula! He checked his sash to make sure he brought his sprockets, and headed off into the throng. The air was charged! Sorairo's fur stood up on end! Sorairo wondered if this happened to Caerula every time she played with electricity. He wandered among the stalls, saw many sashes and electric toys. He picked up a sash. It matched Caerula's colors. He hoped she would wear it. He saw several dragons with little bear familiars. He asked where those were and walked over to the pen where they were kept. There was one sad looking bear left. He was surrounded by a ball of electricty. Sorairo went up to the keeper and inquired.

"Oh, you don't want that one. We have a new shipment coming in tomorrow, come back then." said the stall keeper.

"No! I can't do that! I'll forget!" exclaimed Sorairo.

"That one's electric do-dads are all out of whack, and I'm not about to go near him! Come back tomorrow!"

Sorairo looked at the bear. Looked at the stall keeper. Looked at the bear again. He then shoved the last of his sprockets at the surprised shopkeeper, grabbed the bear by the scruff, and took off! The stall keeper shouted at him, but then just shrugged. "NO REFUNDS!" he yelled at the diminishing tundra. One less problem for him to worry about.

Sorairo was outside the festival boundaries before he noticed the pain, such was his adrenaline rush. He dropped the bear, who rolled to the ground in a big static ball. Sorairo looked around him. He was on a path, but to where did it go? All of a sudden, he felt a jolt, and saw in his mind the lair and the path to it. It happened in an instant. Sorairo shook his head and glanced down. The bear had come up and rubbed his nose against Sorairo's leg, and it had apparently jolted a memory. Sorairo looked at the path again and knew which way led home. He started walking, hoping that the bear would follow. He really didn't relish the pain of picking him up again (pain memories seem to last longer than other memories).

By the time Sorairo made it back to the lair, it was late. Caerula came rushing up to him.

"Where were you?! I was looking all over the lair for you! Oh! What is this?" She looked down at the bear.

"I went to the festival. I brought him back for you. I think there is something wrong with him."

"What? You went by yourself?! Sorairo, you can't do that! You'll forget!" While she was speaking, she was using a weird contraption on her paw that was controlling a little flying machine. It was probing at the bear. Caerula was able to examin the bear without getting shocked.

Sorairo said, "I know, but I didn't forget! The bear shocked me, and I remembered! It was so weird...." But he could see that Caerula had stopped paying attention. He focus was on the bear. Already, she had gotten the electricity levels down, and the bear appeared much more comfortable. He reached over to pet the bear, this time not getting shocked. He smiled. Caerula was happy. She had another project to work on. And perhaps a helper. She was going on about attaching a voltage regulator to the bear, and other technical jargon that Sorairo didn't understand.
