There is very little known about The Watchers that live deep within the Fortress of Ends. The few that see them say they are the shadows that writhe along dark icy caverns, the end of the soundless cries within the cold walls, and even the frost beneath your feet. They are secretive creatures that very few see, most who do are already frozen. The Watchers, if seen, can be found standing at the sidelines studying those that have been trapped forever in their icy prisons. It often feels like they are waiting for something in particular to happen… What they are looking for none can be sure. It is said that they report their findings back to the Icewarden, others believe they are there to make sure you can’t get out, and very few label them as a warning sign to turn back while you still have time.
The Watchers are patient and will follow a dragon through the Fortress of Ends for days. They tend to create fear and panic when the dragon only looks back to its own reflection in the icy surfaces. They do not appear to have any ill intentions and do not directly interact with any that enter. Their role is that of an observer, but their presence still causes an icy sort of fear. That is not to say that they have positive motives either. The Watchers are usually emotionally blank and completely objective in whatever their goal may be. It is clear that they are most interested in those that have been frozen. It is unknown how they came to be and how they themselves do not freeze. There is no specific breed of origin.
They have no social interactions with those outside of their own Subspecies. Within their Subspecies they communicate with looks and subtle gestures. You will never hear a Watcher speak. It is thought that their voices means a certain kind of end. The Watchers usually spread themselves out across the Fortress of Ends so that they can observe collectively as much as possible. It is believed that they come together to share their findings but this can not be confirmed.
Deep in the Fortress of Ends there is thought to be lairs where they share their 'archaeological' studies. None have been able to make it far enough into the cold to see if this is correct and much is left a mystery. They are shrouded in rumors and little to no confirmed fact. For the most part they sleep and collect food near whatever they are watching at that time. While they have a permanent dwelling they can be very nomadic in nature.
