Biography

Tristan
Patriarch of House Tristan, Chief fetch-changer
Mate of Iseult Xatia
House Tristan

Tristan is the Chief Fetch-changer of the clan, and patriarch of House Tristan, a house loyal to the Queen. Along with the other fetch changers, he uses his abilities as a wind dragon to change the direction of the wind so that the most destructive waves are diverted away from the lairs and back out to sea. Under his very careful supervision, the fetch-changers also patrol the coastline as scouts, relaying back information and as light scavengers.

Wind dragons are an important part of the community because of the natural talents they posses, so Tristan is always on the lookout for recruits, but being a fetch-changer is a dangerous job because of all of the changing wind currents. There is no way that Tristan would ever endanger a dragon, and so he refuses to accept unable or inexperienced dragons, no matter what flight they hail from.

He adopted the brothers, Bors and Kay, from Clan Ravenstone, and takes care of them primarily on his own. His natural fatherly nature keeps the two brothers inline, even Kay, who is excitable at best, and a miniature tornado at worst. Tristan secretly hopes that Bors will complete 'The Search' quickly, and be able to come back to the clan, because he doesn't want to lose his Son. All of his own children have left to serve the Tidelord, an honour that he appreciates, but he hopes that he can keep his adopted sons.

After His mate journeyed off to serve the Tidelord, Tristan lost all faith in his clan. Filled with rage and anger about how he perceived his deity to be treating him he upped and left, leaving behind only a single note for his family; 'Don't look for me'. He felt rejected by everyone he had ever held dear, and longed for the whistling winds of his homeland again. The water flight was no longer his home, he loathed it. Resented it...

After wandering aimlessly for weeks, he rested on a cliff. Staring over the edge, off into the distance, trying to erase the past from his mind. He scanned the horizon for land but saw nothing but water... water. Blasted water. His rage rose like a fire in his chest. He felt the presence of another dragon and turned and snapped at it. “Leave me — ” he trailed off. He stared at the dragon sitting behind him. He was looking at a purple Pearlcatcher cover in aqua gems. She tilted her head like she was trying to figure something out. “What is your story,” she had calmly asked. Tristan turned his head back towards the water. He sighed. He though of his old home, his children, he thought of Iseult. “A tough tale... that I don’t wish to share.” He turned back to face the dragon. “I see. I understand. I sense your pain but I don’t want to pry. My name is Xatia of the Rainwater Retreat. Who are you?” Tristan thought hard. “Who am I? I’m just Tristan.” “Well, Just Tristan, it’s nice to meet you. Xatia giggled. Yet as upset upset he was, he couldn’t help but smile. He felt like, well, he felt like he could be happy as long as this dragon was around him. “You said you were from the Rainwater Retreat. Where is that?” Xatia laughed again. The joyous sound rang through his ears. “You are here! We live in this cliff side. The Rainwater Retreat is a place for all.” Tristan looked back at the horizon. He could try, he could live here, start over. After all, with Xatia around, he could be happy. “Okay, I’ll live here. If that’s okay.” Xatia smiled. “It most definitely is!”

Tristan never believed in love at first sight until he met Xatia. He’d give her gifts, such as the corsage, neck bow and tassel she wore. She always found a way to make home smile. Eventually they had a nest and Tristan felt prideful. He smiles down at each of his children. Even when they told him they wanted to explore and serve elemental dieties. He knew Xatia, his hope and happiness, would never leave him.
