Calder first met Kira in the Astrolodome, where they both sought shelter during an astral storm. He was studying to become a mage, and found himself next to an antsy Guadian for a week and a half. While they hunkered down, they connected over their love of the Starfall Isles and their desire to know more about it. Calder's home clan had settled south of the Tourmaline Archives, but he had grown and desired to set off on his own. And now there was a confident, albeit fidgety Guardian next to him. Kira offered to let him join her on her search for her Charge, but assured him that she wasn't sure where it would take her. Luckily, they landed at the heart of the Focal Point.
Calder and Kira attempted to raise many hatchlings, but all except four met an early demise. Risa and Akron are the only survivors from numerous clutches. Fortunately, a few wayward eggs surfaced over the years while the clan scavenged for food, and the parents were able to adopt a few more hatchlings. Quill, Ceridwen, Atira, Abaddon, and Cernunus entered the family this way.
Because of his experience raising many hatchlings at once, Calder is the Lead Hatchling Caretaker of the clan, ensuring that the nests are tended to while the parents rest, feed, or stretch their legs. Sometimes a pair will want to fly together, even with eggs on the way. His duties keep him up at odd hours and are entirely dependent on if any pairs are laying at the moment. Luckily, he has help.
