Biography
Red. A distinct color that immediately brings forth a violent reaction no matter the shade. Red brings forth fear, love, vitriol, disappointment. Red, which marks both hunter and prey lethal. From the soft shades of red which mark the ancient homes of pre-war dragons as dilapidated structures. Harsh reds that indicate venomous or poisonous. Red, the color of war. The color of life, proof of mortality and the triumphs of generations to grow and expand. The color of dying. The reality that nothing is forever, permanence is only a temporary state of being. Crimson, scarlet, ruby. Every shade vivid and veiled with implications. The most suggestive color on the spectrum.
Bloodred was once exuberant, full of life and love. Her heart swollen she often found breathing a tedious task. All around her, magic. Her own doing, her own special skill she offered to her clan selflessly. A mate, a warm nest, a home, friends. She had it all, and she loved it like none other. Nothing could compare to what she’d been blessed with. What her beloved Arcanist had chosen just for her. All that she could have wanted she had. And then, as all things do, it came to an end. I violent, unforgiving climax in which her precious mate fell for another, a being lesser than her in every capacity. Her god, her one remaining truth, crumpled from the sky and lashed her claws against the very ground she had blessed in her dying throes. Her clan had moved on, her own life nearly lost in the midst of the Fall, her home abandoned, her divine guide now little more than another body left for less than savory creatures to gnash at and assimilate.
It would not take much to find her kind, the clan she’d once given her all too. She’d been so giving to them, so altruistic in their lives. And her mate, her one true love, he which she’d given her own beating heart. He had a new love- a new life. Bloodred, still grieving the loss of her single driving force, felt what was left of the part of her heart she’d managed to keep sputter to a halt. She felt the beast slow, erratic and painful, until she could no longer feel the thrum of its rhythm in her chest. And so, meeting her ex-mate for a second time and screaming internally in turmoil as he passionately introduced her to his new mate, she made a vow.
She is still powerful. She still crackles within a shell of magic, so faint any dragon not born to the arcane would never know. She would bring ruin upon Frozenskies, her ex lover, her lost mate. She would bring blood to his clan, death would have his mate and she would personally see to it. He would rue the day he scorned her love, her promises of compassion and loyalty. He would bleed, stained forever by heartbreak and betrayal, as she was. Life is only temporary, love is fleeting. He would learn both these truths by her hand.
She sits, stews, hums her days away with a cheeky smile and a twinkle in her eye. She quips with her clan, so familiar yet so foreign all at once, helps the weak and praises the strong. She bides her time, willing the hours by until she can strike. At her side is an oddly cynical, like-minded Skydancer. He who she hates, loathes with every drop of blood in her body, who she sees in shades of red when he talks. They scheme, squabble, swear up and down they are only in cahoots as means to an end.
Like all things, life is not permanent. Neither is love. But, perhaps, even once lost, there is hope that it can be found again. But not without constantly trying to rip another's throat out. This is a story about red, after all, and all the dark implications surrounding it. Not the potential of loving again.
