Biography

Theo
Dread Pirate
Chaotic Evil

The Dread Pirate Theo, scourge of the Arcane Airs, was once infamous around the isles for raiding nearly every clan he could get close to. But after a night of too much grog, he mistakenly crashed his airship into the Observatory, believing it to be a regular cloud bank. Furious, the Arcanist destroyed what remained of the airship, and gave Theo the choice between death and hunting the legendary space kraken.

He currently hides out on the island, as nobody has seen the space kraken ever and returned alive, and he doesn't want to go anywhere near that monster.

As once befit his position, Theo often tries to threaten and order around the other dragons. However, it's hard to feel threatened by somebody hiding from something that probably doesn't exist. And Clan _______ has never been much for following directions on the best of days. Nobody pays the pirate captain any attention when he tries to pressure them into doing work for him. After all, if he can't even do one little errand for the Arcanist, why should they do anything for Theo?

But instead of actually doing anything to try to complete his task, Theo spends much of his time drowning his sorrows in Saburo's bar. Well, he did try to rebuild his airship, but what he created wouldn't even pass for an airdinghy.

His crew scattered after the crash, and he hasn't heard hide nor horn from any of them since. Not the he's surprised; pirates are only loyal as long as they're being paid, and the Arcanist claimed all the treasure on Theo's ship for himself as "research grants". Unfortunately for them, Theo keeps a tight hold on his crew roster, so one day he'll be visiting each of them, bringing a suitable reward for their betrayal.

There isn't any good reason for letting Theo remain in the clan. Not only is he a criminal, but he doesn't do anything of benefit for the clan. He only gets to stay because there are surely worse characters than him that make Clan _______ their home. That, and Silas forgives far too easily and won't banish anyone while they aren't hurting anyone, regardless of their past misdeeds. Kokoro would gladly kick him out, but doing so would make him feel as if he'd have to expel everyone else of similar moral dubiousness. That could get messy, fast, and Kokoro doesn't want to risk harm befalling the innocent clan members. (And a tiny bit of him is worried there might not be much of a clan that would get to stay if he did so.)

Of course, during his time as a pirate Theo made quite a number of enemies. Many of them are the clans he plundered, and Theo couldn't care less what they think of him. But others are privateers and pirate hunters, and those may be what actually get Theo back in the air, not the Arcanist's task. For Theo wants his death to be just as much of a grand tale as his life, so being captured while hiding like a coward just won't do. To have a final stand fitting of his legacy, he'll need to gather a new airship and crew and lead them on the adventure of a lifetime.

And if Theo has any say in it, it won't be the last adventure either.

The runes marking his body list off his crimes, and also hold a spell which theoretically compels him to complete his assigned task. However, the enchantment seems to be missing any punishment for failing to make progress, and thus Theo's ignored it's effects. On an unrelated note, he's noticed that his clothes don't seem to fit quite right anymore. Everything just seems to be a bit too big.

Theo hates those runes. But not for the intended punishment reasons, but if anything because somehow none of the most interesting stuff he's done was recorded. Sure, the list of other dragons he's slain is somewhat useful for intimidation, but nobody cares about various acts of vandalism, ecological damage, and the times he illegally anchored his airship. Where's the fun stuff, Arcanist? All the cool pirate things he's done? He once stole a solid gold model of the solar system, and he doesn't even get a rune to commemorate it?

Theo has a parrot because all pirate captains have parrots. Not that they necessarily want parrots, but because Sornieth itself almost seems to believe they should have parrots. Thus flocks of parrots hounded Theo until he finally gave in. After all, one parrot's better than a swarm of them.

(Cress took one look at the runes and determined they're slowly causing the bogsneak to shrink. Don't tell Theo.)
