Abandoning his Shadow homelands, Matsya found himself pulled deep into the ocean waters. Drowned by the heavy pressure of the currents the Ridgeback was near death. His life was saved, however, by a passing Wavebreak Snarler who saw the Ridgeback's scale coloring and knew that bound the dragon to the lands of water. Starting his life over, Matsya dedicated himself to the Tidelord but once again tragedy struck as three of his children were given away to different gods. His last of that brood, a purple runt named Mika, survived and still lives in the same clan as Matsya, but is a failure in his father's eyes. Now, once again, Matsya sired another nest and this time one has gone back to his Shadow birth lands, another to serve the Tidelord, and one last whose fate is yet unknown.

But these past events have made Matsya an angry and restless soul. He vows to keep any new children safe from foreign gods.

To mark a year of living in his new Water life the Tidelord sent an envoy to bless Matsya. Now his scales ripple like the very waves themselves.

After his second year living with the Clan, Matsya has been bestowed a group of fish from the Tidelord
