Biography

April 13th, 2018:

An impressive figure, the oldest Imperial in the clan, and the one with the largest wingspan. He has sired many children, and counts among his grandchildren the warrior Coccino. Stern, reserved, and dedicated entirely to the Icewarden.

April 24th, 2018: Mumuralae hurt. He hurt greatly, though he tried to ignore the fact that not all of his pain was physical. For just over 4 millennia he had served the Icewarden faithfully, given his all, and now this. His wings and body had shown his service. Injuries that had been treated but still left their marks. The once vibrant blue mottled with white, and his scales splotched with building materials he couldn't remove no mater how he tried. His smile was bitter sweet as he remembered his children's rumbling laughs at the site of him at his return home. Scales still glinting with the globs of gold. He'd worn the proof of his devotion with pride and yet...

He had been dismayed to hear rumors of possible clan changes, but knew he had no say in the matter. What the clan leaders wished to do, would be done. He'd gone off to work as he had done every day since he was a young apprentice. They had been working on repairs to a temple when the ominous rumbling had started. He'd pushed his young apprentices away from where they stood and just as he saw that they had fallen clear there was PAIN. So very much pain and then thank the Deity the darkness had taken him.

He'd waited for family to come, but as of yet, they had not. He tried not to feel lost, to feel abandoned. He listened to the sing-song patter of his healer, telling him that his bandages would be removed soon. That he had been taken in by

and that while they tried to find his family, they also held out hope that he would be happy to live and perhaps serve in the Arcane lands. The young doctor, for you could hear the youth as well as the pride in his voice, pointed out that 'Spacedad' as he called their Deity never saw great age as a hinderance, but as the blessing it was. That with age came experience and hopefully a healthy dose of wisdom as well.

Mumuralae could but smile. He hoped that some of his family would one day find him in what he was quickly coming to think of as his new home, until then, he would embrace these new drakes that had welcomed him so easily. Who saw his age as a blessing, and not as a curse, an inconvenience, or a hinderance. While the pain was still there, the squeezing around his heart lessened with each word spoken to him.

"And we can most likely bring the color back to your wings, and remove the splotches, if you wish."

"Wait, what?"

"Oh yes! Spacedad experiments with all sorts. If you wish, we can..."

"Yes, please!" Mumuralae knew it might be rude to interrupt but the idea that he could start anew, with the reminders of his past hurts and failures not looking back at him in every reflective surface he passed. That was too exciting of an idea to allow his tongue to be still. "Yes, please. Whatever the cost I'll..."

And now it was Dr. Arkana's turn to interrupt. "Tish tosh. We shall not speak of costs. Tis but a trifle. Besides... if you agree to let Spacedad try something new, I'm certain he'd do it for free, just to have a drake such as yourself walking about showing off his latest creations.

Turning his great head to where he knew the doctor to be standing, Mumuralae smiled fully. Great white teeth gleaming. "I would be honored to, my young friend. I mean, Dr. Arkana."

"Tish tosh. Please, call me Ari. All my friends do."

Friend. Such a simple word with so much meaning, but he truly felt, down to the bottoms of both his beating hearts that this young drake was quickly on the way to becoming a friend.

"Then if I am to call you Ari, then you must certainly call me Mumur, or Mum. All my friends do."

The tinkling laugh he heard made him smile again. This youngster made him feel young again. Something he'd not felt in far too many ages.

"Mum it is then." the smile was clear to hear in his voice. "Now, get some rest. I need to talk to Spacedad, but I think we can have you out of here in a few days, a week or two at best. Then we can find you new lodgings. There are several spots near me that are rather nice, and big enough that you can stretch your wings. We of Arcane are all about our creature comforts when at all possible. Rest now. I'll be back."

Mumuralae on twitched a moment as he felt a touch to his wing joint and heard 'Ari' move away. Relaxing by degrees for the first time in a long time he didn't ache so much. At least, not his hearts. For the first time in a long time he felt wanted and dare he truly think it but... he felt like maybe, just maybe, he might have found a new home. Exhaling slowly he relaxed further, allowing his mind to drive. Home. Yes. It seems that his wasn't a tragedy after all.

Home.

April 25th, 2018: UNNGH!!! That was NOT a feeling he wished to get used to. It hurt!!! Mahal, how it hurt! And yet, he felt lighter. What had...

"Shhhhhh. Rest! Spacedad has taken care of your wings."

"My wings?!?" He would have turned his head to look, but the bandages were still over his eyes."

"Yes. Your wings. He was going to go with a newish alloy, but went with yet a newer one. It's as tough as the alloy, with only one tenth the weight! It might take you a little bit to get used to the weight difference. They weigh much less than your original wings even."

"He... Ari! Are you telling me he replaced my WINGS!?!?!"

"Kind of?" Even Ari couldn't help but to cringe at the lilt of hesitancy in his own voice...

"Kind of." Mum tried to relax. After all, there was really nothing for it, was there? "Are there any more surprises in store?"

"Well, now that you mention it. Ummmm..."

With a deep sigh and a rumbling chuckle Mum relaxed completely. "Never you mind. Won't be much of a surprise if you tell me, now will it. We'll just take it as it comes."

"That's the SPIRIT!" and with that the conversation moved on. Ari asking Mumur about his experiences and Mum all too happy to tell him about his experiences leading up to his being there. Well, some of his experiences.

April 27th, 2018: Mumuralae was excited. In pain, but excited. Ari has told him that his bandages will come off today. What would have taken months in his old home has taken but days in his new one. He can't help chuckling when he remembers the pride in Ari's voice when he put voice to his awe.

"But of course. We of the Arcane realms are scientists and explorers. We also believe in working smarter, not harder. If it can be done in less time, with the same excellent effects, why not?"

And now, Mumuralae was waiting to see the final results of that 'smarter not harder' work ethic.

"I have to say" Ari began "I think you look wonderful! Spacedad said that you can have filigree later if you wish, but thought this would help you with your healing fast. Plus, it does make you look extra dashing!"

Mum waited as patiently as possible. At his ages patience was indeed a virtue. His first look at the new and improved him knocked him mute. Thankfully, Ari was happy to talk enough for both of them.

"Spacedad said he was going to go with Alloy at first, but realized that while beautiful, would take you longer to get used to. Bee is actually a new polymer and it's actually shown itself to be as strong, and sometime stronger than Alloy in practical application. The runes are for healing and protection. Spacedad thinks he could work the same runes into your filigree, if you want that later, but it would take time. He figured this would be acceptable, after he got all the gembond off. So... what do you think..." Ari stepped away, dropping the last of the bandages onto the pile to be burned later. He smiled as he watched his new friend make his way carefully to one of the large looking glasses kept in the ward.

If it weren't for the scar over his eye, and the one on his aft thigh, Mum wouldn't have been sure it wasn't some kind of trick done with mirrors and lighting. Stood before him was a whole new dragon. Large and fierce looking. For all appearances, in the prime of his life, not by any means ready to be set out to pasture. Turning his head towards Ari, he gave a toothy grin that would have scared a lesser drake.

"How can I ever repay you. You and Spacedad for such kindness?? It's too much!"

If it were possible to be seen, Mum would have noticed the flush on Ari's face. As it was, he couldn't help but smile when you noticed the younger drake fumbling with his goggles. Something he'd quickly noticed as the younger drakes main tell when nervous.

"Tish tosh! Thank us by staying. Helping us to improve. Help to protect what we have here. That would be thanks aplenty."

Moving forward slowly Mum smiled at the young doctor. Nodding his head his rumbling answer swept over Ari in a warm, and welcome breeze.

"Aye. That I can do." Mum rumbled. "Tis the least I can do to protect my new home and my new friends." Mum smiled at the blushing drake. "Yes. I'm home."
