Shanty's Story

Shanty was horribly abused from the start. Whenever she was able to breed, male dragons would force her to carry their hatchlings, often sending them to the deities in disgust, not even granting them a name. While Shanty was proud to see her children have the honour of serving the deities, she wished she could escape the horror of her life by joining them. But she knew it was hopeless. Even if she did manage to escape, she would be stolen back, by the males that abused her.

Every day she was called ugly, and beaten severely. One day she could take it no more. Despite having laid a clutch that very day, and barely being able to walk, she took to the sky in a mess of tears. In a rush of adrenaline, she managed to fly into wind territory, before crashing into the clan Lagoon of the Wind. Another female tundra approached her and gently asked why she was crying. In a mess of tears, Shanty managed a few words before breaking into a new round of tears. The tundra looked sympathetically at Shanty and reassured her that she could stay. Shanty is happy here now, but she still finds it so hard to talk about her past, and always worries about that last clutch she left behind.

Many years have passed since Shanty arrived in Lagoon and although she has had her fair share of ups and downs she has finally started to open up and let others in close to her heart and has let the worry of her last clutch slowly dissipate, as her time with the Clan has given her strength she has noticed a shift within herself that she was not expecting - a shift that she is now ready to make a reality. With a heavy heart, she informs the clan of her departure and what she has planned for the future, although many were crying it was not in pain but in joy as the Shanty who landed that fateful day so long ago has grown and been reborn into the one that now stands before them with a new view of the world. Although she will be missed the Lagoon clan knows that it is time for them to let one of their family members go into the World to find their place. With their final farewells and parcels of provisions, the clan made Shanty gave one final smile and wave before beating her wings and taking to the sky out into the World.
