Even as a hatchling, it was obvious to the adults in the clan that Nico was artistically inclined. Instead of splashing around in mud puddles like most others his age, Nico would draw decorative patterns and rudimentary pictures in them with his paws.

As he grew older he also dabbled in sculpting and origami, and though he's moderately talented at both his primary interest has remained painting. He's learned how to use a brush at this point, but most often he prefers to use his paws while managing the more detailed work with his claws.

His canvases are whatever he feels like at the time, whether it be traditional paper or stone slabs. Occasionally he'll get in the mood to decorate kites in bright, cheerful patterns, and the finished products always seem to end up tethered outside the lair where they merrily dance in the breeze. His most unique pieces of art are the ones he designs on the bodies of volunteer dragons, however. Whirligig in particular loves the artwork on his hide so much that Nico regularly touches it up for him so that it doesn't fade.

Dissatisfied with the limited selection of paints available from merchants, Nico opts to mix his own. He's continually experimenting to make new blends, but he's already created different types that will safely work on fabric, stone, paper, and dragon hide.

Despite his prolific activities, Nico is unaware of just how highly regarded his skills are among the clan. He merely focuses on creating what he likes to see and doesn't consider that others might appreciate its beauty, too. As a result when Colors of the Wind asked him to take her on as an apprentice he didn't quite understand why she would be interested in studying under him, but he was willing enough and does his best to teach her what he knows and help her improve.
