Zorua was born into a ruthless clan in the Scarred Wasteland, cursed by the Shadowbinder. He grew up among sickness, violence, and death, seeing hatchlings born weak and dying quickly, or a relative brutally killed by their tyrannical leader for any slight mistake. His parents abandoned him as soon as he could fly, leaving him alone. Lost and very, very afraid, the little Imperial took wing and flew as far away from the Wasteland as he could. A storm blew him onto to shores of the Tidelord's realm, where he was found by Mikhail and Tiaka, who had been making alliances with a Shadow clan. They asked the little Imp where his home in the Wasteland was, but he made it very clear he never wanted to go back. So they carried him back to their clan, where they knew he was going to be well taken care of.

As the Imperial grew, he developed a deep love of books, where he would lose himself in fantastical stories of dragons who rose from small beginnings to legends. His passion grew, and he soon became a walking encyclopedia on pretty much anything, but most of all fantasy stories. He became the clan librarian, reading, collecting, and organizing every book he could. He has put together a vast collection of books, letters, charts, records; all kinds of stored knowledge, and he has read or studied every one. The library is now a vast cave full of plush armchairs and dusty sofas, softly lit and smelling of old books (the same smell that now clings to Zorua's scales). He retreats to his library, his safe haven, whenever the world is too much. Chai often keeps him company when he hides away in the library, as he is the only one who's company Zorua actually enjoys. Chai's warm heart and Zorua's soft nature go perfectly together, allowing Zorua to slowly heal.
