Jurassic

Born in the robust center of Dragonhome, in the bustling Greatwyrm's Breach, Jurassic was always sociable. She came from a moderately sized clan, and her soft demeanor gave her a calming energy that her clanmates cherished. As she grew older, she was one to help her parents care for her younger siblings, singing them lullabies and telling them all the stories from her own childhood. Many were from her father Grum, and her memory for recounting his experiences was impeccable.

As she grew older, and her parents stopped having more kids, Jurassic felt compelled to care for more hatchlings. Around town she'd care for other clans' hatchlings for a fee, though usually not much more than food and a simple pay; she took enough joy in caring for the children that it was enough of a payment in itself. But even then, it wasn't exactly right. She felt odd staying for such short times, only to have the children lament her departure. It saddened her too, but she had a clan to come back to.

Jurassic felt that maybe the solution was to raise a clan of her own. With the blessing of her parents, she set off through Dragonhome in attempt to band dragons together under her name. She maintained a small clan among the Shattered Plain, as it was the only land she found to stake her home. Her clan was a fraction of that of her home clan; no more than five dragons at any given time. While the group survived in the land, Jurassic felt something missing in her heart. Running a clan was a completely different experience to raising hatchlings, without the silliness of a waddling hatchling and the joy of a twinkle in their eye. Even with companions under her leadership, she felt lonely here in this vast desert. Every night she watched the sun set over the Cairnstone Rest, wondering if she had made the right idea.

Her clan mutually agreed that there were better prospects for themselves elsewhere, and mutually separated, each going their own way. Though sorrowful, it was bittersweet, as Jurassic felt a sense of relief. She did not feel like she could run a clan well -- not here, that is. So with the coming sunrise, she looked east, and saw the towering Behemoth of the Viridian Labyrinth. Sometimes, she thought, a new home is farther away than you'd think. Though she felt a knot in her stomach, thinking of leaving her homeland, maybe the answer was farther beyond these sandy plains.

Packed with supplies from the local trading post, Jurassic set off on her migration east. With just enough funds to get a ferry across the sea, Jurassic stepped foot into a new, unfamiliar territory. Life was abundant in the Labyrinth: the lush greenery surrounded her, and immediately her nerves settled. The life around her, even if ambient, already made her feel like she wasn't alone. The safety reassured her, and she knew she had made the right choice.

Rather than start a clan of her own, Jurassic renounced her entrepreneurship and sought out a clan in need. She felt that she would be much more useful helping another's clan than to run her own. This search brought her to the fledgling clan of Sarihlle, yet without a name. Though small, Jurassic felt a good energy from the blue Guardian, knowing she was a true leader. She pledged allegiance to her, and joined what would later become Clan Gladehaven.

Jurassic was fundamental in the growth of Gladehaven. Here, she took the role of hatchling caretaker; she helped mates raise their young, and watched over them when their parents needed a break. It was a perfect intersection of all her previous endeavors: it was a job without being temporary; it was management without leadership; and most importantly of all, she was caring for children, her greatest passion. Many dragons born into Gladehaven were raised by Jurassic herself, and so she became seen as a stable, comforting force inseparable from the clan's roots.

As one of the clan's few Snappers, Jurassic's lifestyle was seen as peculiar. But it was no different than back home, and she used her genetics and culture to rear the clan's hatchlings as best as possible. Because she did not sleep, she was able to protect the hatchlings of the clan throughout the night. If one awoke, she would know, and coo it back to sleep soundly. Furthermore, her immense memory meant she could repeat any story she shared exactly, again and again -- even for the twelfth time, if a hatchling requested as much. She had the patience for it, as one must to care for hatchlings. The stories of her father, that of her own journeys, and those from her imagination filled every night with wonder and twinkling green eyes. For the timid and fearful hatchlings, Jurassic's broad build provided a solid and securing presence for hatchlings to cuddle up to; she would sing them lullabies, as she did in Dragonhome. Her abilities were so well rounded that nobody else believed another dragon could take her place; however, one, a Coatl named Soft, eventually asked to apprentice under Jurassic, to which she accepted. Now Soft acts as Jurassic's assistant caretaker, singing songs in her native tongue and providing Jurassic with extra support when she needed it.

Jurassic's investment paid off. Initially, Sarihlle asked her to act as the clan's representative to the Earth flight, as the only Earth dragon who resided here. To Jurassic, this felt like a way to keep connected to her homeland, without leaving her current home, and the balance satisfied her. She accepted, to Sarihlle's joy. Having representatives in her clan was critical for inter-flight relations, and it was critical to have good relations with the neighbors of the Labyrinth. Jurassic thus became Gladehaven's first flight representative.

Over the course of time, Jurassic saw Gladehaven grow from a small, young clan of dragons to a massive home to over a hundred, relocating until they found their perfect land. Now in their permanent home, Jurassic was fundamental in the management of the clan. As a result, Sarihlle asked her and three other dragons -- Ancient, Yohualli, and Osteon -- to join her and her mate, Frir, in becoming the Council of Clan Gladehaven. All of them accepted, understanding their synergy and importance in the life force of the clan. Together as the Council, they kept Gladehaven a benevolent and prosperous home for all who resided.

Many years have passed, and clanmates keep asking Jurassic why she never had children of her own. To that, she answered, that she does not need children of her own blood to feel the love of a mother. Though maybe in the future the stars would align and she may have hatchlings, for now she is content and glad to be the universal mother of the clan.
