This is Phionne, and…her mate.

His name is–or, that is, his name was Fargan. But that was before they met one another in the Scarred Wasteland. That was before they fell in love. That was before they were attacked by a pack of savage mirrors that injured them both grievously, and they barely escaped with their lives. That was before Fargan’s wounds began to fester with uncountable diseases. That was before they realized that she was carrying eggs. That was before they realized there was no way for them to get out of the Scarred Wasteland before she was forced to nest. That was before Fargan collapsed, and didn’t have the strength to get back up again.

That was before Fargan could barely hold consciousness in the deep, dark cave that was the closest thing to shelter they had found so far, and before he spoke his last words to her.

It was the last breath he would ever take. And with it, he whispered, “Make a nest out of my bones, and keep our children safe.”
