KERES
Progenitor - She/her - Scary 'Boss'
oNUic3j.png
Keres founded the clan. Any dragon here will tell you that. It's why she commands so much respect. She's not even actually in charge anymore, she handed things off to Astraeus years ago. Dragons just won't stop? asking for her? advice? Maybe because she will answer, of course. Often followed by shouting "something something leader" to whoever is currently scurrying away 'thank you! so very sorry to bother you ma'am! I'll be going right now I promise' with their brand new solution. Supposedly when enough dragons stick around to comprehend that "something something leader" is not her very intimidating reminder that she's the boss, but rather quite the opposite, she'll move on. That just hasn't happened yet. Seems very doubtful it ever will.

Her partner Lethe finds it endlessly amusing. Watching time and again as dragons look like terrified hatchlings approaching the big bad mirror. Hearing the curt responses taken for disdain. The exasperation for anger. The fear while she dutifully checks on everybody's progress. You'd think they'd learn from the praise of a job well done that she truly doesn't dislike her lairmates. She's just not all that talkative. How many times now has Keres claimed 'As soon as x is done, I will leave. They will be fine'? She cares about them so much. The big bad mirror is giant softie at heart. Even if physically she could rip an Emporer's to shreds.
Even how she wound up getting everyone together speaks to that. A young Keres found Lethe, a tundra hatched in plague, and admired her determined struggle of natural magic against breed difficulties. They toughed it out for a while, even raising some hatchlings there. After a particularly troubling period of fever though it was clear something needed to change. Her matter of fact attitude didn't leave any room for protest. Sometimes the strongest thing you can do to survive, is to quit. She dragged the miserable tundra to the neighboring Arcane territory for their research library. The plan was to figure out how to do a breed change to something more fitting. Get new perspectives on biology to take home. Who knows maybe they could learn how to use one disease to balance the symptoms of another. Because they were absolutely going back to Plague afterward. Of course. When the scroll they'd used turned out to be for a Fae, it only made sense to stay a few more weeks. Just to help her partner learn from natives of the species. She respected them. Nothing more.

Bonds formed between mentors and allies. At one point they hatched a clutch of eggs, and that meant more time to study while they grew strong enough to travel. How were two Plague parents meant to deal with the wild Arcane magic of their children? So then weeks turned to months as they expanded the lair. By now it was only fair to invite their friends to move in. The arcane scholars could teach them what they needed to know and keep the lair as thanks when they inevitably left. Keres would protect everyone in the meantime. Months blurred to years. She officially handed off title and authority when she realized everyone had come together to become an actual clan. But well, as you can tell, by then it was too late. She loves her family and doesn't protest too much. Maybe it wouldn't be too terrible idea if she stayed.
