NOBLEMAN

[ HURT | WANTS TO BREAK FREE FROM CORRUPTNESS ]

ioR1iEB.png

The sun was just beginning to set on the festival. The performers were starting to line the streets. People were rushing about. Children were gleefully playing the games. Suddenly, a rocket burst into the sky. It whistled all the way up and exploded in a shower of gold and green. More fireworks followed. People gathered by the launch site and watched in amazement at the lovely display.
A young woman lie out in the grass. Her head was turned towards the sky. A gentle smile graced her lips as she watched the fireworks. She was a commoner. She always went to the festival. It was her favorite thing to do with her family. This was the first one she was going to alone. She had moved out away from her family and was seeking solace in an old tradition. Her smile steadily grew as she remembered coming to the festival as a child. She remembered her father handing her a few coins and telling her to spend them as she pleased. She remembered laughing and running off to spend those few coins.
Meanwhile a young nobleman was also admiring the fireworks. Such a breath taking way to please the people. It was curious to him. The fireworks were beautiful, no doubt, but they were so simple. He smirked. People were so easily amused, himself included. He pulled his eyes away from the display and walked down the street. He took the time to watch ever performer. He had never been to the festival. He had always spent the time during the festival to do his studies. The area around his mansion was quieter during the festival, so he could focus better. As he stood by a performer, he regretted having not been to the festival before.
The fireworks show soon ended, only to be replaced by a magnificent fire show. Performers ate fire and blew it back out at the crowd. The woman stood at the back of the crowd. She had seen this routine many times, but still enjoyed watching it. The nobleman also stood towards the back. Not for lack of interest, but because he did not wish to be in the middle of a hot and sweaty mass of people. The woman turned away from the crowd and started heading back to where she had been watching the fireworks. She had left the blanket she was lying on and it was getting late. She had to open up the bakery early in the morning and start baking the bread. She carefully folded up her blanket and walked to the exit of the festival.
Out of the corner of the nobleman's eyes, he thought he saw something flashing. Perhaps a sword or a knife. He was certainly no guard, but he felt it was his duty to the people to help them. He edged away from the crowd and headed to where he thought he had seen the flash. He was not paying attention to his surroundings, but only where he was going. Before he knew it, he had slammed right into the woman. They both fell to the ground. The woman picked up her blanket and offered the nobleman her hand.
"I'm so sorry! Are you alright? I wasn't looking where I was going!"
The nobleman took her hand. She wasn't offering the respect people typically gave a noble. She must not have known he was a noble. He gave her a small smile.
"No. I was paying attention, but it is such a pleasure to run into a beautiful lady as yourself."
A deep shade of red appeared on her cheeks. She pulled her hand away.
"It's a pleasure to meet you sir, but I really must be going."
She turned to walk away, but the noble's voice brought her back.
"Wait. You did not even tell me your name. How am I supposed to find you again?"
She swiveled back and once again offered him her hand. This time to shake.
"I'm Meixu. If you wish to find me, I will be at the bakery."
He took her hand and shook it.
"I am Fensui."
Meixu looked like she was going to leave, but she stopped herself.
"Well, Fensui, you don't seem like you know what's going on." He opened his mouth to protest, but she talked over him. "I happen to know all the best places to buy food and I know the best place to watch the finale of the second fireworks show. I could share my information and I believe it would benefit us both." A glint a mischievousness crossed her eyes.
Fensui thought for a moment. Eventually, he nodded.
"Alright. I will see if you really know all that you say you do."
Meixu smiled and grabbed Fensui's hand. She pulled him around the festival, showing him the best performers and the best foods. He had never seen so much. It was all so new and interesting. The life of a commoner seemed so joyful. They had so little money, yet they were so happy.
Finally, Meixu spread her blanket on a grassy hillside. No one else was there. Fensui doubted that this was truly the best spot. If it was the best, there would be more people. Meixu sat down on the blanket and patted the spot beside herself. Fensui sat next to her.
"This is the perfect spot, because the fireworks go off there," she pointed to the base of the hill, "and they explode there." She pointed right above them. "It's perfect. You just have to lay back and enjoy the show."
Meixu laid back. Fensui followed suit. This girl was so incredible. He had only just met her, but the way she acted around him and talked to him made him feel like he had known her his entire life. She was so comfortable and confident. He wondered how she would treat him if she realized that he was noble. He wondered if she already knew, but simply did not care. Nevertheless, he was laying next her, watching stunning fireworks.
Fensui was disappointed when the fireworks stopped. People began to pack up their stalls, booths, and shops. Meixu picked her blanket off of the ground and folded it once more. She sighed. It was very late, or rather early in the morning. She had to open the bakery in a mere four hours.
"Well. I had a great time, but I must get back to my house. I have to open up the bakery soon." Meixu smiled and started to walk away. Fensui followed her.
"I had a great time as well. I may have to stop by the bakery to see you again."
He had to get going as well. His father would be upset when he heard that Fensui had been out with the commoners again. He sighed. He grabbed his horse from the stables. It was a pure white stallion. It had his family crest emblazoned on the saddle. He pulled himself up and allowed the horse to trot towards the exit.
Meixu was also heading towards the exit. She spotted the horse. She was amused that a noble would come to their festival. She almost laughed before she saw who was riding the horse. She suddenly felt very embarrassed. She had treated a noble like another commoner.
Fensui saw Meixu and waved. The horse started into a slow run and eventually a sprint as they left the festival. Meixu stood amazed as she watched him leave. She let out the breath she had been inadvertently holding and walked towards the town. She shook her head as she the thought crossed her mind that he would actually come to the bakery to see her. A noble. A noble coming to her bakery just to see her. She laughed and walked into her house.
What an incredible night.

- Written beautifully by Reiyn's Fate

"In and out, inhale exhale
Do your best, though you will fail
And fail and fail and fail again
This soul-deep wound will ne’er mend

Hatchmates gone, nest abandoned
No clan, no parents, past imagined?
Perhaps one’s all was not enough
Perhaps one’s flaws are far too rough

Among elegance, sharp lines defining
Among royalty, prince-like reclining
A single mountain, lonely, broken
Sad cries muffled, mourning unspoken

Flame snuffed out, naught but ashes
Yet through the dark like light she crashes
Like single flower through air she floats
Makes light rain down through dusty motes

Mourning’s silence, in morning dew
To her he swears his heart is true
Past is gone, history set
Future isn’t written yet.

All he has is now, today
All else is a life away
Among kings and nobles, dragons and men
She makes his heart feel whole again.

But can such things be made to last?
Fortune, to him, misery cast.
Seeds of doubt, and seeds of fear
Whispering lies where she can’t hear

And so he holds himself aloof
Unsure of lie, much less of truth
He fears his heart, fears her intent
Perhaps this love was never meant.

Yet still his soul remembers much
The softest words, the kindest touch
And though he hides all else away
To her his mind shall always stray"
