[ "To go to any length, to pursue any means necessary, all for the sake of doing the impossible. That, my friends, is science." Azathoth was born in the Ashfall Wastes, the sole offspring of a proud warlord. His father was eager for his son to follow in his footsteps, but Azathoth's heart lie elsewhere. He much preferred to spend his time among the clan's metalworkers, learning their tricks and watching them forge. It wasn't long before he made his first weapon, a blade with deadly hooks intended for tearing one's enemies apart. His clan accepted Azathoth's interests at first, but soon it became clear that he was willing to cross a line that they were not. Rather than sticking to metal and flame, he began experimenting with electricity, trying his hand at mechanized weapons. His clan became too embroiled in conflict with neighboring beastclans to pay him much mind for a long while; the beastclans attacked in great numbers, fighting as though their lives were at stake, seemingly unprovoked. Eventually Azathoth's father found his son experimenting on beastclan prisoners, replacing their limbs with mechanical apparatuses. Sickened by what his son had become, his father sent him away. Tesla found him wandering the Shifting Expanse, peddling his wares for fish. His inventions were simple enough that others turned him away scoffing, but Tesla recognized the Ridgeback's potential. He offered the other dragon a place in his clan as a scientist under his care, which Azathoth gratefully accepted. It was here that he met his mate, Cthylla, a quiet Guardian that found his honest nature charming. In the nights when he dreamt of his home and missed the warmth of the Wastes, Cthylla kept him company. When Azathoth hit a plateau in his work, he thought that a partner might help him clear his mind. An enigmatic, eerily amiable Spiral named Sullivan found his way to the clan, offering an attempt at fusing science with the magic of the Arcane clan. Azathoth jumped at the opportunity, working with his new companion on a machine that would allow dragons to see into the dreams of others. Their research went well, though sometimes Azathoth would come in to their workshop to find Sullivan already tinkering. He thought nothing of it at the time, but when they finished their prototype and Azathoth tried it on, it became clear that something darker was at work. The last sights that Azathoth saw were twisted and sickly, horrors that existed neither here nor in the dreamworld, but somewhere in between. Even worse- when he looked into them, they looked back into him, reaching across the void and ripping out his eyes. From there, his world changed forever. Sullivan left, and Cthylla stayed even closer at his side. Though he still returned her affections, Azathoth secretly burns with curiosity to discover the world he merely glimpsed, and researches how to find a way back when Cthylla's attention is elsewhere. It isn't easy to keep a secret from his mate, but her absolute trust and love for him, ironically, blinds her. As for Sullivan, Azathoth bears him no ill will. If anything, he respects him all the more. Though Azathoth wouldn't deceive Cthylla if he had a choice, he doesn't feel remorse about it; after all, he has always been willing to cross the line that other dragons avoid. |

Sure, he left Azathoth permanently blinded due to deception, but Azathoth isn't the type to hold grudges. |

Azathoth is a brash dragon who has never known a stranger. He always speaks his mind and is completely oblivious to when he makes others uncomfortable. His voice is low and guttural, and he tends to ramble on rather slowly. This combined with his habit of thinking out loud can make him a very frustrating conversation partner. Impatient or shy dragons have a hard time getting a word in edgewise, or exiting a conversation with him. He's very self-centric; when a conversation steers away from his interests for too long, he usually interjects with something more relevant to him. He doesn't realize he's being selfish... he's honestly never thought of it that way. |
