Name: "defending men".

Sasha is one of two children of a pair of con artists who had no real territory, wandering around Sornieth in search of riches. As a result, while Sasha was born a Shadow dragon in the Foxfire Bramble, her sister, Fiona, was a Nature dragon born of an older clutch in the Gladeveins. When the two nocturnes were very young, their parents were killed by mercenaries from Hyperion, a rising clan of the Sunbeam Ruins. As a result, the two hold a grudge against the clan and all its inhabitants

Fiona raised her younger sister to the best of her ability, but the two nocturnes had no way to easily find a living. So, they turned to stealing. Sasha would distract any dragons they found, while Fiona swiped any treasure and gems they were carrying. They would use their earnings to buy any food or supplies they needed from local taverns.

This system worked well for them for a while, as the young dragons matured, until they tried to steal from an old snapper named Felix.

Felix quickly caught on to what the sisters were doing and confronted them about it. Fiona was quick to protect her sister, snarling at the snapper that he would have to kill her before he could ever hurt Sasha. She wasn't intimidating in the slightest, but the show of loyalty impressed the snapper.

Instead of harming them or turning them in, Felix told them they weren't doing it right and showed them how to properly steal. Under his guidance, they stole a hapless coatl's knapsack, which even had food along with the meager stash of treasure. Once again impressed, Felix took the sisters under his wing and began raising them as his own.

Though he was raising them into a life of crime, Felix was a good father. He quickly grew attached to the sisters and encouraged their talent. Fiona was the logical one, the problem solver. Felix taught her to think her way out of any situation and to do whatever it took to get the best possible outcome.

Sasha, meanwhile, was the more emotional of the two, more likely to make a reckless, impulsive decision. Felix taught her to reign in her temper and encouraged a charming wit that became her greatest asset in the family's many heists. He showed Sasha how to be resourceful; under his guidance, she became an excellent scavenger and an even better improviser.

As they matured and grew into adults, Sasha and Fiona began to, slowly, learn about their father figure. Felix had once been part of a clan run by a cruel wildclaw named Vallory, who ruled with an iron claw. He never told them how he left but instilled in them a deep-seated wariness of ever being part of a clan.

While Fiona preferred to put her all into following in Felix's footsteps, in her early adulthood Sasha began experimenting with romance. She had short relationships with many dragons, never really finding anyone that really clicked with her. One such relationship was with a wildclaw named August, a Plague dragon who ran a tavern deep within Dragonhome.

When he learned of the relationship, Felix was pleased. He had been hoping to involve August in a heist for some time but knew he would never agree to it. Sasha was wary, until Felix told her the target of his heist: Hyperion. Lately, Hyperion had been overstepping its bounds once again; now they were tearing clans apart in search of strange artifacts. Felix knew that many strange dragons passed through August's tavern, and planned to use the wildclaw's relationship with Sasha to "pull one over on those Hyperion curs," as he put it. Sasha was definitely on board with this plan.

The plan took many seasons to put together, though in the end, it was simple. Sasha would continue to be August's mate, running his tavern with him. Fiona was to pretend to be an archaeologist, who had stumbled upon an impossibly rare artifact and wanted to share it with her dearest friend -- August had never been told the two were sisters, and their resemblance was subtle enough he never realized on his own. She would mention how much such an artifact would be worth, especially to Hyperion. August would think it was his decision to set up the trade with Hyperion.

Felix was proud as he watched his daughters bring his plan to fruition. August fell for the trick immediately, not even bringing in any actual experts to confirm the twisted scrap of metal Fiona presented him with really came from the great machine that created the Arcanist.

Unfortunately, confirming the deal was not as easy as it had been to fool August. Hyperion was eager to accept the artifact offered to them, but the dragon they sent, a pearlcatcher named Blake, had a keen eye. Blake knew at once the artifact was fake and, disgusted, took back the bag holding hundreds of thousands of coins. Before Sasha or August could hope to convince Blake to take the metal anyway and give them the treasure, the deal was disrupted.

By chance, a rogue band of thieves stumbled upon the deal as they fled from the mercenaries chasing behind them. Their leader, a muscular mirror with a mask hiding his face, swiped up the treasure excitedly as he passed through, and his lackeys crushed the "artifact" underneath their heavy feet. Blake was furious but could do little as the mercenaries and thieves fought in the clearing.

Blake shouted over the chaos that the two would pay for deceiving and stealing from Hyperion, fleeing the scene. August made to fight back against the thieves, when Felix and Fiona burst onto the scene. Fiona called out for her sister, who flew away from August without a thought. The wildclaw watched in shock and betrayal but quickly sprung into action as he saw them leaving.

August snapped at Felix's tail and wings, leaping and swiping at the sisters. His claws left a deep, jagged gash in Sasha's hind leg, and Fiona was quick to react. She spun around and spat at the wildclaw, the Nature magic in her veins producing a thick, stinging acid that burned his face and sent him back to the ground. He hissed and shrieked in pain, but Fiona ignored him. Sasha couldn't help but look back, and with a pang of guilt saw the agony in the face of someone, only moments before, she had been so close to.

From then, Sasha decided to swear herself off of romance. Any dragon, male, female, or otherwise, that approached her was brushed off. She even was reluctant to use her looks or flirt with those she encountered. Each time, she remembered the look on August's face when she and her family betrayed him.

Sasha's wounds healed, and the family recovered from the failed plan. Felix was disappointed in them and made this clear. When Sasha retorted that there was nothing they could have done to prevent those thieves from disrupting the deal, he replied that they should have planned for that to be a possibility.

For the next few weeks, things were tense within the little family unit. However, that didn't last very long, and soon Felix found another opportunity for a heist. He had found the hideout of the thieves who had stolen from them, located deep in the Ashfall Waste. Felix planned to take back what had been swiped out right from under them, and the sisters were all too eager to accept his plan.

When they found the hideout, all the dragons within were fighting. The vast, flat crater in the dark rock was full of writhing, hissing dragons, and the stone was splattered with blood. From atop a pile of scrap metal, their leader watched, a bulging bag of coins clutched in his grasp.

"Well, what are you waiting for?" Felix said to the sisters. "Go on!" A little apprehensive, they paused a moment, but a harsh look from the snapper had them gliding down into the fray.

If the thieves were surprised to have these strange dragons joining the fight, they didn't show it.
Instead, Fiona and Sasha were immediately dragged into the thick of the fight. From the shouts and taunts of the dragons around them, they were apparently fighting for the right to have all the treasure in the bag atop the pile.

For the first time, Fiona and Sasha felt like their lives were really on the line for a heist. Felix stood by and watched impassively. Eventually, Sasha realized there was no way they could survive if they continued the way they were. So, she thought of a way to stop the fighting.

Sasha darted towards the great pile of scrap metal and threw herself against it. Digging her claws in, she began to climb. Within moments, some of the thieves were scrambling after her. The metal beneath them groaned and bega to sway. By the time she reached the top, it collapsed under the added weight.

The leader toppled to the ground with a shrill cry, the bag of coins bursting and spilling everywhere. Treasure littered the crater and with ecstatic shrieks, the dragons ceased fighting to gather as much as they could. Sasha crawled out of the rubble of the pile, shaking herself off.
She caught the proud grin Fiona sent her way, tilting her head proudly.

Felix made his way into the crater and joined the thieves in gathering up the treasure. He hissed and snarled at any who came close to him, including a bewildered Fiona. Sasha couldn't hear a word of what they were saying, only saw the hurt and fury in her sister's eyes. Clutching all the coins he could, Felix crawled out of the crater. Fiona shouted something at him, but Sasha couldn't hear it over the pounding of her own heart. The dragon she had regarded as her father had a cruel grin on his face, completely unfamiliar.

Fiona spat something that caught the attention of a nearby mirror. He roared at the sight of Felix,
and lunged for him, clawing and biting. More of the thieves joined him, overwhelming Felix within moments. Fiona didn't make a move to stop them, and calmly approached Sasha, who was stunned into silence.

"Let's go home," she said.

They returned to their home in the Driftwood Drag empty-handed, neither saying a word. Sasha didn't know what to do with the anger, hurt, and sadness she was feeling, so she stayed quiet.
For the next few weeks, they were back to their old tricks, swiping coins from any dragons they ran into but not attempting any large-scale heists. It wasn't worth it.

Eventually, they met a pair of former Hyperion dragons: a mirror named Vaughn, and a pearlcatcher named Rhys. The sisters tried to rob the two blind but were startled when Vaughn realized what they were up to and confronted them. However, instead of trying to attack or turn them in to any mercenaries, Vaughn confessed that they had nothing. Against her sister hissing for her to leave the two alone-- "Fiona, they're Hyperion, for Shadowbinder's sake!"-- Fiona offered to let Vaughn and Rhys stay with them for a while.

"A while" turned out to be more than just a few nights, like Vaughn had originally promised them. The mirror was very smart and picked up the con fairly quickly, quickly earning the sisters' approval. It didn't hurt that he was also much more physically intimidating than the sisters, despite his small size.

Rhys, meanwhile, was a little more difficult to trust. Sasha wasn't sure what it was, but something about him made her uneasy. Still, though he was far too trusting and naive for their business, he seemed determine to adapt to his new life. It was charming, almost, how much he wanted to win her and Fiona's approval.

A few months after taking the two under their wings, Sasha and Fiona began planning for another heist, their first since Felix's betrayal. Again, they wanted to target Hyperion, but decided to go about it differently this time. They didn't tell their new friends, wanting it to be a pleasant surprise-- they didn't know the circumstances that led to Rhys and Vaughn leaving their clan,
but figured the two would enjoy a chance to get back at them. It was Fiona's idea originally, but Sasha, having grown somewhat attached to the former Hyperion dragons, agreed.

The day came to discuss terms, and the current leader of Hyperion, a ridgeback named Hugo,
came to the arranged meeting place: the stairs connecting the Sunbeam Ruins to the Tangled Wood. When they saw the ridgeback, Rhys and Vaughn hid away, and Hugo let out a growl when he spotted them.

Things moved so quickly, it took Sasha a second to realize what was happening. Hugo attacked Rhys first, tearing into the pearlcatcher's right foreleg with his jaws. Vaughn, hissing and spitting, was the first to retaliate, but he was knocked away with one sweep of Hugo's tail. Then,
the sisters joined the battle.

Rhys collapsed when he was released, trembling. Chest heaving, he got to his feet, wincing as he looked at his mangled leg. It was beyond repair, and clearly wouldn't hold any weight. He watched helplessly as his friends struggled against the ridgeback.

From the corner of her eye, Sasha saw Rhys's markings, which had always seemed a little strange to her, begin to glow. When he cried out for them to run, she released the hold she had on Hugo's tail and dove away just in time. A burst of blue energy hit the ridgeback in the face,
and he shrieked in pain. Sasha stood frozen in shock as she watched, not at all sure what to think of what was happening

While Hugo pawed at his burning face, Rhys shouted at them all to run again. The glowing of his markings had dulled, and he looked almost ready to faint from the pain of his wounds, but he stood strong. Fiona grabbed Vaughn and fled with him, yelling for Sasha to follow her. However,
Sasha stayed.

She went to Rhys and helped him stand steady, guiding him away. They were too slow to catch up to Fiona and Vaughn, but still chased after them into the Tangled Wood. Rhys finally fainted once they were out of danger, the glow completely disappearing from his markings. Sasha cursed to herself, all but dragging him along. If she didn't get him help immediately, he would surely die from blood loss.

Thankfully, she ran into a small group of wildclaws who seemed to be on patrol, and begged them to help him. The leader, a small dragon wearing a wolf pelt, sprung into action. He and a green wildclaw with torn wings gently took Rhys from her, placing him on the back of the third wildclaw. They ordered her to follow them, and she did so without question.

The wildclaws brought them to a sheltered grove in the Foxfire Bramble, where Rhys was brought before a weary, but kind skydancer who introduced herself as Xactace. Xactace tended to Rhys's wounds, while the wildclaws went to report to their leader. Sasha stayed by Rhys's side as he recovered. When he awoke and heard that Fiona and Vaughn hadn't been found,
he began to cry, and Sasha couldn't help but join him.

This clan of dragons embraced their presence at once, imploring them to stay as Rhys recovered from his injuries. A little wary, but grateful to have somewhere to rest, the pair agreed. For now,
at least until they find their friends, they don't think they really mind calling this place home.

While with this clan, Sasha met a strange wildclaw named Magda. Magda's role in the clan was unclear, even to them, but they were very interested in Sasha from the beginning. They spoke of a deity they called the Steamscreamer, and though she refused to believe such a deity existed,
Sasha was charmed by Magda's enthusiasm. After many weeks, Magda and Sasha have formed a tentative relationship, finding in each other an easy, trusting bond.

Together with Magda, Sasha has become a treasure seeker in the clan, bringing in wealth and valuables. Now she does her best to avoid conning, but sometimes she slips into her old habits.
Rhys comes with them when he can, but Sasha can see that he's nervous about doing so. They haven't encountered much trouble in their roles, but... Sasha worries for him.

In their last heist to the Forbidden Cave, Rhys went down a tunnel on his own. When he returned, empty-handed, he seemed... shaken, but he wouldn't explain why. Sasha can only hope that there isn't more danger on the horizon.

DJ Killer Star the Enamored Swan

Name: an alias Sasha once used on a con

21526.png
DJ Killer Star is a remnant of Sasha's day as a con artist, named for an alias she used in particularly memorable con. She found the swan when he was freshly-hatched, left without a family after Hyperion had ravaged that part of the Driftwood Drag in search of resources. The nocturne couldn't help but empathize with the little cygnet and took him in.

Nicknamed DJ, the swan has been an asset to Sasha and her sister in their crimes. His ability to charm others worked well with Sasha's already existing charisma, and together they took up the brunt of the persuasion in the cons the sisters attempted. In addition, DJ also looks out for Sasha in any romantic endeavors of hers, judging potential partners. If he had met August before things went sour between them, she isn't sure that DJ would have approved of the wildclaw.
However, her current partner, Magda, has more than earned DJ's approval.
