"I was looking for a breath of life
A little touch of heavenly light
But all the choirs in my head sang no
To get a dream of life again
A little of vision of the start and the end
But all the choirs in my head sang no

But I only needed one more touch
Another taste of heavenly rush
And I believe, I believe it so
And I only needed one more touch
Another taste of devouring rush
And I believe, I believe it so

Whose side am I on, whose side am I?
Whose side am I on, whose side am I?

And the fever began to spread
From my heart down to my legs
But the room was so quiet oh
And although I wasn't losing my mind
It was a chorus so sublime
But the room is too quiet (oh, the fever)

I was looking for a breath of life
A little touch of heavenly light
But all the choirs in my head sang, 'No!'
(fever)

To get a dream of life again
A little vision of the start and the end
But all the choirs in my head sang, 'No!'

And the fever dream of life
And the chorus so sublime
And the room was too quiet

It's a harder way and it's come to claim her
And I always say, we should be together
I can't sleep alone, 'cause there's something in here
And if you are gone, I will not belong here
(belong, belong, belong)"

THE ARCANIST
buyvPSY.png
Clan Patriarch + A Piece of a God + Arcane Elemental
"Thanks, Arcanist."

One of the Arcanist's brilliant experiments gone awry, this Arcanist is more or less just a strange-looking dragon with a rather large ego and an affinity for explosions. The Arcane god had the idea to split apart the powerful mass of energy that makes up his being and use it to better watch over and protect the peaceful dragon clans that dwell in his territory. He chiseled dozens of little likenesses from the brilliant pink and purple crystals of the Crystalspine Reaches, fusing the crystals' own inherent energies with his own to bring them to life.

Unfortunately, only a few of his crystal clones could handle the raw power of even a small fragment of the Arcanist's consciousness, and those that gained sentience ran out of control as they struggled with the vast resources within their minds. The crystal Arcanists are the origin of the common phrase used among all Arcane clans when something explodes or otherwise goes wrong: "Thanks, Arcanist!" Those clans of the Observatory were less than pleased when they suddenly had not one explosion-prone god to watch out for but several, all of whom were small enough to duck into a corner out of the way when caught. Eventually, an entire team of Sprites was dedicated to babysitting the golems, but things quickly got out of hand and a large section of the Observatory was destroyed in an alchemical disaster as too many golems tried to magically correct a recipe. Forced to admit defeat, the Arcanist destroyed most of his creations but one or two escaped, awkwardly flying off towards the shore with their shining, mismatched wings aflame.

Feyah found him lying at the base of a tree, completely ensnared in the thorn bush he'd landed in when he had crashed. He had never seen any dragon like her before: she was small and alone and afraid, her shimmering hide covered with an array of scratches. A tiny fairy clung to her head fin, staring down at him with the same wide look of curiosity. The golem was in equally bad shape, cracked and blackened from his frantic escape, but suddenly all of the knowledge in the god's mind that animated his limbs was replaced with pure concern.

"What happened? Are you okay?"

She smiled; this odd Fae with too many arms and wings had all ten of his bizarre limbs hopelessly tangled and he was asking if she was alright. Then she disappeared into the undergrowth. The golem sighed deeply, shifting in an attempt to free himself but only making things worse. That was all he ever did. Make things worse.

When the sun rose the following morning, just before the Starwood Strand's magic had completely faded for the night, Feyah returned with a young centaur who looked just as scrappy and scrawny as she did. Two misfits on the run: two warriors that hadn't wanted to fight each other, and they were now joined by a third.

"A dragon, a Beast, and a god. We're like the beginning of a bad joke."

"Thanks, Arcanist." A slap of an iridescent tail knocked him out of the air and the golem found himself sprawled against a large rock with Feyah laughing from Hawktalon's back.

"I'm serious, though," he grumbled as Hawktalon helped him up. He still sometimes had difficulty remembering which paw belonged to which leg. "We should start a rock band or something. With a name like that, people would show up just out of curiosity."

"What?" They both blinked at him in confusion.

"Oh, you know..." he trailed off. It was times like these when the reaches of his mind felt endless. He could get lost for hours in there.

Eventually, that's what ended up happening, though Ralakay Glen is less of a musical group (that much, the small Arcanist could explain) and more of a home. A home for wayward wanderers such as themselves, for dragons that don't belong anywhere else, and for those just looking for a new start. Since its unofficial beginnings as three refugees lost in the Strand, Ralakay has grown to a large, eclectic mix of dragons from all over Sornieth (and perhaps, beyond).

The clan aligns itself with the Arcanist; obviously, given the background of its founding patriarch, with ties to the secondary deity the Timeholder. For a while the Arcanist golem served as his creator's representative, given that they are mentally one and the same and if he concentrates, he can hear and interpret the god's thoughts. But after spending so much time living among the residents of Ralakay and acting as its leader in conjunction with Feyah and Hawktalon, the Arcanist found himself suppressing more and more of his godly tendencies in favor of those that would allow him to better relate to his clanmates. (The role of the Arcanist's priest was later taken over by a mage more qualified for the job.)

Like any other dragon the Arcanist began to grow and change as a result of his new life. He retained his ego and impulsiveness, but a lot of his godliness has slipped away. Now his job is not to imitate his creator as a crystalline god but to merely live his life as a dragon, albeit one with a weirdly-shaped head and no actual organs. Despite being made of crystal the Arcanist has learned to enjoy himself in nonexplosive ways. He took Feyah as a mate after years of silently admiring her passive power and how just being around her made him feel more in control of his powerful mind. (And he's mostly given up acting all lordly over experiments and research in favor of sarcastic comments, really bad jokes, and unsolicited advice. Mostly.)

He and Feyah rule over day-to-day business in the Glen, though when and if needed, the two are the single most dangerous dragons in the clan and will give their lives to defend everything they have worked to build. The Arcanist is still connected to his creator and can channel his power. Too much and he will exhaust the energy of his form, but for short durations his power is unrivaled except by the Arcane god himself. He hates letting more of the god in, though, as he's proud of the dragon he's become. Gods may be omnipotent and immortal, but the most powerful things in life are outside of the gods' grasp. They will never truly understand the bond it took to create friendship and love between those who had never received it.
