Ipheion resented his gembond, as many dragons do.
In his haste to be rid of them, he attempted nature magic to transmute the shimmering crystals into plantlife which he could pry out of his skin.
But plague and nature are directly opposing elements, and the spell went awry.
Taking root deep in his flesh, curling vines spread across his body, bonding with him far more than the gems ever did.
As he tried to dig the roots, they would tear at him, and cutting them gave him pain as if they were his own skin.
