In the wake of the Third Age, the Shade splintered into fragments and its essence bled into the various flights populating the world. Catharsis is one such fragment, a shard of the greatest threat ever posed to the Gods and their wards. And yet, despite her dubious origin, the storm in her veins was much stronger.

Like her displaced “siblings,” Catharsis was born with a great and terrible power. Able to call forth calamity with but a flick of her claw tips, rather than using this gift to tear the world asunder, she kept to herself and lived out her days tinkering away at the back of her cave. For as fun as it was to take things apart, she far more interested in seeing how things worked and relished putting them back together again.

Try as she might to dissuade her origins, there was no denying that she was rather… odd compared to her brethren. It was nothing physical, no. For all intents and purposes, she was as any Guardian should be, and she’d done well to keep her penchant for disaster tightly under wraps so her flight remained none the wiser. And yet, something about her just courted danger, wore it like a second skin. Instinctively, other dragons knew better than to invite her ire and, as such, avoided her altogether.

Living in isolation at the edge of the Shifting Expanse, Catharsis found her time occupied with explorations into the nature of the Shade. What was she? Why was she? She traveled often, venturing into other flights to gather what little information she could. It was on one such jaunt into the unknown that she happened upon a quickly wilting floret. If pressed, she wouldn’t be able to recall what exactly possessed her to take the dying plant with her. Perhaps it was a desire to prove her bloodline wrong? To show not only the Shade, but the Gods as well, that she was more than destruction? Regardless, she planted the pitiful bloom at the heart of her lonesome abode. While a sad sight at first, the effort that went into nurturing its growth had been well worth it. Even now, as she curls up in the protective embrace of the flowering garden that became of her companion’s previous remains -- it’s complicated -- regret is the farthest thing from her mind.

Proxy serves as a reminder that she is beyond what her “father” has given her.
