◆ Mist - The Longing Statue ◆ |
"...Even if I am permanent and fleeting at the same time, I will ensure that you, my dearest; who I have given everything to, will remain in my mind, now and forevermore. So even if I cease to move, know that your memory will live within me."
No dragon has ever heard of an occurrence like this one. But one day, the mysterious craft of a long-deceased artisan came to life. The beautifully, intricately sculpted Coatl stepped off a roughly-shaped, overgrown podium of rough marble. Surrounding her was a broken down shack, formerly built of wood planks, but it was now overgrown with vines and moss. Old, dusty tools laid untouched on the ground around her, a memoir of the one who had given her shape and form. Her wings unfurled, gleaming dully in the light that filtered through the trees of the Viridian Labyrinth. Eyes of two well-cut topaz gemstones took in the world around her, vibrant with life and greenery, even though she was detached from it - as she was something inorganic, made of cold stone rather than flesh and blood, eternally condemned to seperation from the rest of Dragonkind. Even though she bore their magnificent, awe inspiring visage. With nowhere to go and no purpose in life, she began wandering. Glad to have found civilization, she settled with the nearest clan who would take her in. Her marbled exterior made her a greeter, standing protectively and stalwartly by the entrance of the clan grounds, as if she were a presiding gargoyle, ready to attack intruders. When she stands still, one can no longer even tell the difference between Mist and the work of a skilled stonesmith. However... One day, she felt stiffness in her limbs. Her wings felt heavy, and her motions felt rigid. And she feared, for she had found one who she loved, and wished to spend her life, or rather, existence with. He was unaware of her identity, and yet reciprocated her longing feelings, and desire for affection. Mist did not dare tell him of her condition, which only worsened by the day. And when she tripped due to her now-awkward motions, she felt a crack form on her body, as if she had been made of stone, and only stone. Ancient myths tell of a man named Pygmalion, a sculptor who fell in love with his statue of an ideal female, for he did not have a wife, despite living on the island of love. Perhaps, her story would be doomed to a similar end- except that she would not come to life and kiss her love, but she would freeze in cold eternity, only preserving his memory and nothing more... |
